Political Plunder Shrinks Liberty
Dems aim to raise taxes on high income earners while restoring tax breaks for blue-staters.
“Build Back Better” was an appropriate campaign theme for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because they’re building big government back using increased taxes and extravagant government spending at the expense of the private sector, including a higher cost for goods and services. The historic economic opportunities that were transcending race, ethnicity, and gender just prior to COVID via tax cuts, deregulation, and a fair free-trade policy with global partners were paused as Americans fought a novel virus that raged through population centers in its early days. Not even a year after near-universal COVID lockdowns of the economy, the Biden-Harris regime has already begun to reverse those proven policies for the failed playbook — tax, spend, regulate, and grow government at the expense of jobs and personal freedom.
The Biden economy revolves around government largess, not the good of American citizens. Republicans argue that Biden’s $1.9 trillion Not COVID Relief package spent less than 10% for virus-related needs. A $3 trillion spending spree for infrastructure and education is next on the docket, and it will be funded by absurd corporate tax increases as well as individual tax hikes.
Reversing the tax cuts that created jobs in Donald Trump’s economy is just one of the expected changes. Bloomberg also reported the Democrats controlling the federal legislative and executive branches of government have plans “also to address what Democrats argue are inequities in the tax system itself.” Addressing inequities according to the morality of the Left and its god of government is part of the Religion of Woke™. If an individual has worked, sacrificed, saved, and has personal wealth and property, the #WokeDemocrats say that could only happen by oppressing others, so these inequities must be addressed by exploitation — taking from those who work hard and giving to those who will not.
As French economist Frederic Bastiat once wrote, “When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.” Government has no money unless it’s taken from another person or entity to spend upon another person or entity. Bastiat continued, “The state is that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else.”
A key provision being pushed by blue states is the reversal of the 2017 cap of $10,000 on SALT (Sales and Local Tax) deductions, which permits taxes paid in the states to be deducted on federal taxes. New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and California are among the most vocal for this change, since the high income earners who could formerly deduct excessive levies from their federal taxes are now choosing to move to states like Florida, Tennessee, and Texas to find right-sized government taxes and spending.
The Democrat push for restoring these tax breaks for wealthy blue-staters is an interesting contrast with their insistence on raising taxes on high income earners around the nation. Coincidence?
The Religion of Woke™ has grown in the same soil of big government, using the power of politics to enrich and elevate an elite group who make themselves indispensable through acts of redistribution that, according to Bastiat, is theft of goods using force of law. Biden has worked hard to “Build Back Better” financial and political divisions in our country that in the end just hurt the average American fighting to keep what they earn and live free. The Left’s “moral code” glorifies big taxes, big spending, and big government in the name of a false and destructive equity.
