The Senate passed the Democrats’ anti-Asian hate crime legislation last Thursday. Unfortunately, but predictably, it’s a bill that amounts to little more than a virtue signal aimed at fueling the Left’s “systemic racism” narrative. The legislation’s author, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI), touted the bill’s passage with typical leftist hyperbole. “I cannot tell you how important this bill is to the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) community, who often have felt very invisible in our country,” she pontificated. “We in the Senate are going to stand with our AAPI community, and indeed any community that is discriminated against on the basis of race.”

Well, except white people. It’s always okay to discriminate against white people on the basis of race.

As we noted before, the hyperbole is demonstrated by the Democrats’ reference to the statistical data showing a roughly 150% increase in reported anti-Asian hate crimes between 2019 and 2020 across 16 major cities. That stat is intentionally misleading, however. For example, the city that saw the highest rate of increase in anti-Asian hate crimes, New York City, went from a total of three to 28. Without minimizing those individual crimes, this is not a major issue plaguing America.

Because nearly every Republican chose not to fight this empty virtue signal, this Democrat legislation passed the Senate 94-1. The problem is that it’s aimed at certifying the original ridiculous and disingenuous claim by Democrats and the Leftmedia that Donald Trump’s reference to the coronavirus as the China Virus or Chinese Virus, because it originated in Wuhan, was racist.

CNBC’s reporting serves to typify this reality. Its story reads, “The legislation marks the most concrete action Congress has taken to respond to a rise in violence and harassment directed toward Asian Americans since the pandemic started last year. It followed an increase in racist rhetoric directed toward China over the origins of the virus — including from former President Donald Trump and his allies on Capitol Hill.”

Referencing the geographic origin of a virus is racist. And don’t you forget it.

Meanwhile, even news outlets like The Wall Street Journal continue to point to the attack on several Atlanta massage parlors that left eight people dead, six of whom were Asian, as evidence supporting its narrative on the dangerous rise in anti-Asian crimes.

Yet the assailant’s motives are known, and they had nothing to do with the race of the victims, two of which were white. As he clearly expressed to law enforcement, he went on his murder spree because the women tempted his claimed sex addiction.

The bill designates the Justice Department to further investigate a review of hate crimes, and it also guides states and local law enforcement on establishing hate crime reporting and data collection and public awareness. Ultimately, the bill further divides and segments Americans into ethnic groups. It’s Joe Biden’s understanding of “unity.”
