The Patriot Post® · Biden Gives Sanctuary Cities the Green Light

The federal government will no longer withhold millions of dollars in grant money for cities and states that establish “sanctuary” polices for illegal aliens. Attorney General Merrick Garland recently released a memo stating that the Justice Department was rescinding former President Donald Trump’s order that limited federal funding to the law-flouting sanctuary states and cities. The move comes as little surprise. One of President Joe Biden’s slew of executive orders in his first days in office was to overturn Trump’s EO against sanctuary cities.

Garland issued a further memo on Wednesday, declaring, “The Department informed grant recipients and applicants that they will continue receiving certain Department grants without making certifications. The Department will also cease giving priority consideration to grant applicants that accept conditions similar to those requirements.”

When Trump issued his executive order against so-called sanctuary cities back in 2017, he rightly observed, “We cannot faithfully execute the immigration laws of the United States if we exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.” It didn’t take long for seven Democrat-run states with sanctuary cities to issue lawsuits.

In February of last year, a New York appeals court issued a ruling in Trump’s favor, which the states appealed, only to withdraw their appeal upon Biden’s election. They knew they could count on “Moderate” Joe.

Biden’s decision further underscores his commitment to a de facto open-borders immigration policy. It seems he’ll do anything to erode the distinction between legal and illegal immigrant.
