Patrisse Cullors made her millions, bought her big houses in white neighborhoods, and is now taking — at age 37 — an early retirement of sorts. The Black Lives Matter cofounder announced yesterday that she is resigning from the organization.

“I’ve created the infrastructure and the support and the necessary bones and foundation so that I can leave,” she said with obvious self-satisfaction. “It feels like the time is right.”

Nice work if you can get it and retire to one of your four homes.

“I have never taken a salary from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation,” said the self-proclaimed “trained Marxist” when controversy over her real estate deals surfaced in April. “And that’s important because what the right-wing media is trying to say is, the donations that people have made to Black Lives Matter went toward my spending, and that is categorically untrue and incredibly dangerous.”

So, then, where did her money come from? At least in part through a side hustle consulting firm she owned. We’re sure it was completely independent from BLM.

Except, no, it wasn’t. She peddled her influence by swapping money from one hand to the other.

“There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public,” Booker T. Washington once said. “Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

Cullors may have given up her job, but she sure cashed in on fomenting misery for others.
