When Donald Trump was president, the media relentlessly and falsely criticized him and his administration for creating a border crisis.

Time magazine’s infamous fake news cover back in 2018 featured photographs of a crying two-year-old girl from Honduras looking up at a stern, heartless President Trump. Other media outlets attempted to make those Barack Obama-era cages look like Trump’s holding pens for migrant children. When a father and his daughter drowned crossing the Rio Grande? It was Trump’s fault for denying people asylum.

The message was crystal clear: Trump was directly responsible for breaking up migrant families and treating them inhumanely, and people were dying because of his policies.

The child in that iconic Time cover was never alone. She was crying at the sight of Border Patrol officers questioning her mother after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Again, the cages were Obama’s and even some of the photos were from during his presidency. And rather than wait on their asylum application, the father impatiently tried swimming across the Rio Grande.

Nonetheless, the media would stop at nothing to make sure every single lost child or dead migrant was somehow blamed on Trump.

In reality, those same Trump policies were far more humane, as they didn’t give migrants the incentive in the first place, and thereby didn’t place their lives in danger.

President Joe Biden decided to take a different approach, but he didn’t even wait until after his inauguration.

In fact, it was during his campaign for president when Biden called for the very border surge the media currently ignores, effectively announcing to anyone in Mexico, Central America, or abroad that the border between the United States and Mexico would be wide open under his administration.

In response to a question posed by Jorge Ramos of Univision asking why Latinos should trust Biden as president, he replied, “I would in fact make sure that there is, that we immediately surge to the border — all those people are seeking asylum. They deserve to be heard.”

As columnist John Kass writes, “Desperate migrants heard his call as a promise that his arms would be as wide open as our southern border. His wish came true. Now Biden owns it. All of it.”

Kass adds, “Biden immediately stopped construction on the border walls and began to unravel and end Trump administration policy that kept the border better contained. The most significant of these changes was Biden ending the Trump administration ‘Remain in Mexico’ order that kept migrants from rushing the border while they appealed for amnesty status. All that ended. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that this year the U.S. is on pace to see more illegal border crossings than it has seen in 20 years.”

It’s not that the Biden people didn’t know this would happen. Former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf was just one of many who warned the incoming Biden administration about what would happen if it dismantled Trump’s policies overnight.

While Democrats celebrate the surge, safely hiding from behind fences and troops surrounding the U.S. Capitol, people are dying at the border. And it’s time to lay blame where it belongs: at the feet of Joe Biden and his AWOL “border czar” Kamala Harris.

There’s hardly a day that goes by without another tragedy involving migrants attempting to reach the United States, encouraged by a president who told them to run for the border but didn’t give a damn about what would happen to them once they got here.

The stories include a capsized boat in which 10 Cuban migrants drowned, and separate crashes involving vehicles filled with migrants near the border. One estimate puts the number of migrant deaths this year at 100. Throw in the fact that illegal aliens have contributed to soaring rates of crime and violence in towns and cities across the country, and we’ve got a real crisis.

Except Democrats and their sycophants in the media won’t admit there’s a crisis. They’ll continue blaming Trump, ignoring reality, and standing by while more migrant children and their families lose their lives.

This is yet another prime example of Democrats claiming to care about the downtrodden while creating situations that place them in harm’s way. Then they have the gall to blame everyone else for the all-too-predictable results.
