The Patriot Post® · Woke Olympians Are the Exception, Not the Rule
The Summer Olympic Games came to a close yesterday. The showcasing of amazing athletes was somewhat overshadowed in the mainstream media by the disrespectful spectacle of American athletes who chose to dishonor the flag and the national anthem at this worldwide event.
Here are a few athletes who deserve the attention the agitators stole from them.
Tamyra Mensah-Stock won the Olympic gold in wrestling. She was the second American and the first woman of color to garner this achievement. In a post-match interview, she was all joy. She gave credit to God and her coaches for the win. When an interviewer asked how she felt about representing the U.S. and winning the gold, she replied: “I love representing the U.S. I freakin’ love living there. I love it, and I’m so happy I get to represent USA!”
Political analyst Gary Bauer puts the feelings of national pride in this amazing lady perfectly: “I would give Tamyra 10 gold medals if I could. What she accomplished for herself is historic. The way she lifted the spirits of all patriotic Americans is priceless!”

In the 400 meter hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin made history by breaking not only the Olympic record but the world record — a world record she had previously set. She gave honor and glory to Christ and her country. She also honored her teammate, Dalilah Muhammed, for being the “iron that sharpens iron.” Muhammed was the previous world record holder and gold medalist in this event; she won silver after McLaughlin in this Olympics. On August 5, McLaughlin wrote this reflection:
“Let me start off by saying, what and honor it is to be able to represent not only my country, but also the kingdom of God. What I have in Christ is far greater than what I have or don’t have in life. I pray my journey may be a clear depiction of submission and obedience to God. Even when it doesn’t make sense, even when it doesn’t seem possible. He will make a way out of no way. Not for my own gratification, but for His glory. I have never seen God fail in my life. In anyone’s life for that matter. Just because I may not win every race, or receive every one of my heart’s desires, does not mean God had failed. His will is PERFECT. And He has prepared me for a moment such as this. That I may use the gifts He has given me to point all the attention back to Him.”
What an amazing display of humility and patriotism.
U.S. women’s soccer player Carli Lloyd is a four-time Olympian with two gold medals, and now she can add bronze to her collection. She made headlines last Thursday when she didn’t take a knee during the final match against Australia. This is in contrast with the rest of her team, which has made headlines for kneeling in solidarity with Black Lives Matter charlatans. Lloyd has shown real bravery — particularly with the eyes of the world watching. She is a champion with true grit.
This small sampling is just a drop in the bucket of proud American athletes. They are much larger than the small but loud woke minority. So let’s honor these incredible athletes and so many more who aren’t ashamed of their country, anthem, and people. Say their names, if you will.
