The Patriot Post® · 'Centrist' Dems Surrender to Pelosi
As expected, the feigned reservations of the mythical beasts known as “moderate Democrats” wilted into nothing yesterday as House Democrats spoke with a united voice: We will spend $4.5 trillion more of your money.
Nine “centrists” in the Democrat Caucus demanded that the House pass $1 trillion in “infrastructure” spending before taking up the larger $3.5 trillion measure. Did they even meekly suggest they might perhaps be feeling mild heartburn over the Democrats’ radical spending agenda? Did they think maybe all this budget debauchery was a tad too much, and maybe a socialist like Bernie Sanders ought not to be writing the Democrat spending plan?
Not really.
And in the end, these charlatans surrendered to Nancy Pelosi quicker than Joe Biden did to the Taliban.
The House vote on Sanders’s $3.5 trillion spending spree was a party-line 220-212, though even that was theater — they voted on a rule that allows them to “deem” the outline as passed, which means the “moderates” didn’t technically directly vote for the spending. Profiles in courage, right there. Only then did Speaker Pelosi deign to consider the Senate’s $1 trillion “infrastructure” package, which passed in the same manner. The Senate can now move the $3.5 trillion through with just 51 votes.
Your great-grandchildren will thank them.
“The House of Representatives is taking a significant step toward making a historic investment that is going to transform America,” crowed Joe Biden. He falsely claimed that this legislation will “cut taxes for working families and position the American economy for long term growth.” The exact opposite is true. It will necessitate big tax hikes, and it will hamper economic growth through added debt and inflation.
As we have lamented more than once, too few Americans really care about all this reckless spending, but much of the economic squeeze and aggravation we’ve all dealt with this year is a result of Democrat profligacy.
