As the enormity of Joe Biden’s Afghanistan disaster continues to sink in, and as his polling numbers continue to plumb new depths, we can understand why he and his handlers and enablers are so desperate to change the subject.

Think about it: If Gold Star families were telling you to “burn in hell,” and if the Taliban were throwing victory parades with the billions in American military gear that you’d just abandoned, wouldn’t you want to talk about something — anything — else?

Like white supremacy, for example. You know, like the white supremacy that infects our military. You know, this kind of white supremacy.

This is something of a pattern for the Left: When in doubt, lie, and when in trouble, circle the wagons and misdirect.

Yesterday, almost as if on cue, speaking virtually to Jewish leaders ahead of the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Biden told of a trip he’d made to Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue shortly after the 2018 anti-Semitic massacre that left 11 dead. Trouble is, Biden never went to the Tree of Life synagogue. In Walter Mittyesque fashion, he simply made it up. The synagogue’s executive director confirms this.

Of course, Joe Biden has a long history of making stuff up.

“I remember spending time at the, you know, going to the, you know, the Tree of Life synagogue, speaking with them,” Biden lied in a 16-minute ramble that then went on to warn of future attacks by white supremacists.

You know, you know the thing.

“And so,” he went on, “I guess the point I’m making is that the attack in Pittsburgh, those attacks — all anti-Semitic attacks aren’t just a strike against the Jewish community; they’re a strike against the soul of our nation and the values which we say we stand for.”

Translation: Forget Afghanistan. Remember the white supremacists. And lest you think we’re exaggerating, here’s Joe Biden’s hand maidens at CNN trying to connect white supremacy to the Taliban, of all things.

“White supremacist praise of the Taliban takeover concerns US officials,” reads the dire headline.

Let’s hope the American people see through this shameless stuff. Early signs indicate they’re doing just that.

This week, a Rasmussen poll found that a majority of the American people want Biden to resign for his handling of our withdrawal from Afghanistan. The numbers are remarkable: 52% agree, just 39% disagree, and 9% are undecided — which is to say, 9% are afraid they’ll be audited by the IRS if they answer honestly.

This is one poll, and one snapshot, but it clearly indicates that the American people don’t believe Joe Biden simply left Afghanistan — he lost Afghanistan. And lost it badly.

On June 5, 1944, on the eve of the D-Day invasion, General George Patton’s speech to the 3rd Army captured an essential part of the American spirit: “Americans,” he said, “love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. The very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.”

Much has changed since that day, but, by and large, the American people still hate losing, and they especially hate losing in a manner as disgraceful as we did in Afghanistan — leaving our equipment to the enemy, abandoning our people and our allies, and losing 13 young warriors so awfully and needlessly. We have Joe Biden to “thank” for it, and he and his handlers know it.

No wonder this loser wants to change the subject.
