Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a consummate hypocrite. Tell us something we don’t know, you might say. Well, the loudmouth member of Congress is the “new face” of the Democrat Party, and boy does it show with her stance on taxes.

The self-proclaimed “working-class woman of color” just attended the Met Gala in New York. It costs at least $30,000 per ticket to attend, though Fox News notes that “it’s unclear if Ocasio-Cortez purchased a ticket.” (If she didn’t, inquiring minds might want to know who did.) Either way, at least AOC was sporting a splashy white dress with “Tax the Rich” emblazoned in red across the back.

That’ll teach ‘em.

As The Babylon Bee not-so-satirically put it, her designer dress is one that “99.9999% of women through all of human history could only dream of ever affording.” The same percentage of people will never be invited, much less be able to attend, anything even remotely like the Met Gala. Not that most of us would want to…

AOC and her socialist ilk pretend to be “of the people” while declaring from such ritzy events just how they’re going to take care of the hoi polloi by supposedly taxing their wealthy progressive oppressors. The kinds of people who attend these events, however, more often than not have accountants who find every tax write-off and loophole possible to avoid paying a single penny more in taxes than is absolutely required by law.

This is perfectly legal (at least in most cases), and their Democrat pals know it. That’s what makes it politically possible for Dems to promise they’ll squeeze only their wealthy friends and not you, John Q. Taxpayer. The truth is that their socialist schemes will require exactly the kind of massive tax hike now being pitched by congressional Democrats. Suffice it to say, Gala attendees won’t be the ones who notice it.

And as for AOC’s down-home act, the New York Post editorial board said of her stunt: “Very droll … until you remember that AOC helped sink Amazon’s new headquarters in Queens that would have brought 25,000 jobs. Long Island City residents would likely trade AOC’s stunt for the economic boom it would have meant for their neighborhood.”

That’s just it, isn’t it? Democrats feign caring about the well-being of average Americans by promising to tax that hated “rich guy,” all while they torpedo jobs and the economy and do nothing but grow government and their own power.
