The Patriot Post® · The Left Unleashes Its Bathroom Bullies
When your team starts chasing its political opponents into bathroom stalls with smartphone cameras, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate the company you’re keeping. Indeed, when one’s side starts accosting U.S. senators while they’re trying to relieve themselves, perhaps it’s time to say, Hey, my side has become unhinged.
Not so for the Left, though, whose Maoist Red Guards seem to continually remind us that no tactic, however sleazy, is beneath them. And, as the old adage goes, this fish rots from the head. Asked yesterday about the aforementioned incident, which took place at Arizona State University, where that state’s senior Democrat senator, Kyrsten Sinema, had just finished a lecture, President Joe Biden said: “I don’t think they’re appropriate tactics, but it happens to everybody. … It’s part of the process.”
So much for decency. So much for chivalry. Joe Biden can’t even bring himself to defend the fundamental privacy rights of an LGBT woman within his own party. Instead, he just shrugs his stooped shoulders and calls it “part of the process.” Remember: This was supposed to be the “anti-Trump” president — the guy who was going to bring some old-school civility back to the White House.
“We need a Build Back Better plan now,” said one of the agitators, a male, who at least had the decency to keep from following Sinema into the bathroom.
“We need solutions,” said a more aggressive female fellow agitator, who appeared to be reading from a script on her phone while she followed the senator right up to the stall. “The Build Back Better plan … has the solutions that we need.”
“We knocked on doors for you to get you elected,” said a third thug, another female, “and just how we got you elected, we can get you out of office if you don’t support what you promised us.”
The activists, apparently members of a progressive Hispanic pressure group called Living United for Change in Arizona, has been bankrolled by the quintessentially anti-American George Soros and also funded by the Democrats’ Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Here’s the video the group posted of their encounter with Senator Sinema. It does them no favors. We can only hope that Sinema and her fellow intransigent, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, aren’t the sort to cave to these tactics. No one followed Manchin into a bathroom, but a few kayakers did paddle up to his docked DC houseboat and badger him there.
As for Sinema, she was approached yesterday in the terminal at DC’s Ronald Reagan Airport, and then again on the flight, apparently by a member of another Hispanic pressure group, this one called the Arizona Dream Act Coalition. Their goal, like that of Living United for Change in Arizona, appears to be an amnesty package within Biden’s bill. Clearly, his open-borders policy isn’t good enough.
Despite what Joe Biden would have us believe, these sorts of things simply don’t happen “to everybody.” We’ve been publishing for 25 years, and we’re pretty sure this is the first time we’ve written about a U.S. senator being chased into the bathroom and browbeaten for opposing a particular piece of legislation. As Sinema later said in a statement, “In Arizona, we love the First Amendment,” but what these activists did was “not legitimate protest.”
“It is the duty of elected leaders,” she concluded, “to avoid fostering an environment in which honestly held policy disagreements serve as the basis for vitriol — raising the temperature in political rhetoric and creating a permission structure for unacceptable behavior.”
That sounds about right. Bathrooms literally bring out the worst in us, but they also seem to flush out the figurative worst of the Left.
