The cultural erosion from a vision for the future of America being that “shining city on a hill,” as Ronald Reagan once said, continues apace. This time, the rainbow “pride flag” has increasingly replaced the Stars and Stripes in the minds and hearts of today’s cultural elites.

On “National Coming Out Day,” (yes, there is one) DC Comics announced that the son of Superman, soon to be the new Superman, will be bisexual – comporting with the Left’s gender confusion orthodoxy. That’s right. As Tom Taylor, the comic writer for the new Superman comic sequel series “Superman: Son of Kal-El,” explained, “Everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes.”

The new Superman, who will be known as Jon Kent, will be “outed” in an upcoming issue where he begins a homosexual relationship and is depicted kissing his male lover. “Over the years in this industry, it probably won’t surprise you to hear I’ve had queer characters and storylines rejected. I felt like I was letting down people I loved every time this happened,” Taylor complained. “But we are in a very different and much more welcome place today than we were 10 or even five years ago. When I was asked if I wanted to write a new Superman with a new #1 for the DC Universe, I knew replacing Clark with another straight white savior could be a real opportunity missed.”

There are practically countless comic book superheroes, and it would be easy to simply give this a shrug and offer a rather defeatist and dismissive, So what? But that response would miss the greater point. This is not merely offering a comic superhero that caters to the sexual proclivities of a small subset of Americans. This is a direct cultural assault on an American icon. Superman is a uniquely American Superhero, who also intentionally represented a Christ-like otherness and goodness.

Superman came from the distant planet of Krypton to in effect save humanity from both themselves and alien forces that sought to do them harm. Superman also proudly represented the American ideal by using his strength to advocate for Liberty and against criminal tyrants. Above all, Superman was good, and he used his power to promote good and defeat evil.

Apparently, however, gone are the days of Superman standing up for “truth, justice, and the American way.” In his place is the new Not-So-Superman who will be standing for “wokeness, social justice, and the leftist way.” How the mighty have fallen.
