The Patriot Post® · Police Resist Authoritarian Vax Mandates
Florida is leading the nation in job growth, and Governor Ron DeSantis is hungry for more.
The Sunshine State’s job growth accounted for nearly half of all new jobs created in the U.S. in September, with 84,500 of the nation’s 194,000 new jobs. “Despite tremendous national headwinds and economic uncertainty,” said DeSantis, “Florida has reached a level of job growth only seen on four other occasions in the past 30 years. We will continue to work hard to keep Florida open, free, and built for opportunity.”
Now DeSantis is inviting disaffected cops from vax-mandating blue states to come south — and he’s putting Florida’s money where his mouth is by offering them a $5,000 incentive to do so. He’s called President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate “unconstitutional,” and he shared his idea with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday:
I think it’s [important] to point out on a scientific basis, most of those first responders have had COVID and have recovered, so they have strong protection. And so I think that influences their decision on a lot of this — that they have already had it and recovered. And so, they’re making no accommodations for that; they’re still pretending like [natural immunity] doesn’t even exist.
In Florida, not only are we going to want to protect the law enforcement, and all the jobs, we’re actually actively working to recruit out-of-state law enforcement, because we do have needs in our police and our sheriffs’ departments. So, in the next legislative session, I’m going to hopefully sign legislation that gives a $5,000 bonus to any out-of-state law enforcement that relocates in Florida. So, NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle — if you’re not being treated well, we’ll treat you better here. You can fill important needs for us, and we’ll compensate you as a result.
In Florida, then, they love Liberty and law and order.
Apparently, the same can be said for Alaska, where DeSantis’s fellow Republican governor, Mike Dunleavy, tweeted out a Chicago Tribune story about the resistance of the Second City’s cops to Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s vax mandate and her “no pay” order for officers unwilling to share their vaccination status. “Across the country,” said Dunleavy, “members of law enforcement are being targeted & even fired for refusing to either get vaccinated or disclose if they have been. Alaska’s law enforcement community invites you to consider the 49th state where we back the blue.”
Cops, then, have a choice: Florida or Alaska? Deep-sea fishing or dog-sled mushing?
Or, if Chicago cops would rather stay closer to home, they can reach out to Indiana Senator Mike Braun, who’s encouraging them to jump on the Skyway and head next door. “Indiana’s police departments are hiring now and will welcome you with the respect you deserve,” Braun said. “My office stands ready to help connect Chicago police officers to an Indiana police department that is hiring now and doesn’t have a vaccine mandate.”
One place that cops will likely avoid? Minneapolis, Minnesota, where hard-left, cop-hating Congresswoman Ilhan Omar recently blamed the city’s woes on The Blue. “What we must also recognize is that the reduction in policing currently in our city and the lawlessness that is happening is due to two things,” Omar said at a recent town hall. “One, the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve, right? It’s documented. But even before that, it was documented. The Minneapolis Police Department is the most dysfunctional police department in our state and probably in the country.”
“The second part is that there has to be accountability,” Omar continued. “And [blah blah blah blah].” It’s hard to imagine a more deeply disgraceful comment coming from an elected official. And why might the Minneapolis PD be so “dysfunctional”? Could it be that Omar and her ilk have both vilified and defunded its law enforcers?
It’s said that every citizenry gets the government they deserve. But here’s hoping the good folks of Minneapolis wise up and throw Omar out in next year’s midterm elections. Otherwise, they’re going to keep getting the government they deserve — and getting it good and hard.
