The Patriot Post® · Sleepy Joe Embarrasses Us Again

We’ve all been there: that long Monday afternoon staff meeting, big ol’ Scooby Snack in our belly, and the boss droning on and on about something superfluous. We’re fighting it hard, sure, but that peaceful easy feeling starts to settle in, and the next thing we know, we’re … nng … mmmm … zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

And so, for this reason, we’re inclined to cut President Joe Biden a little slack for having nodded off so conspicuously during yesterday’s United Nations Climate Change Conference in Scotland. Given such sleep-inducing material, who among us could begrudge the American president a few hard-earned winks on the world stage? He’ll be 79 later this month, fergoshsakes.

Seventy-nine years old, and still in the arena. Seventy-nine years old, and still the best the Democrats have to offer. We should be so lucky. We should try walking in Scranton Joe’s shoes. We should be the leader of the Free World. We should call an early lid on the day whenever our handlers think we need to go sleepy-bye.

Indeed, there but for the grace of 81 million votes — all of them on the up-and-up — go the rest of us.

Having been gently awakened by an alert staffer, The Washington Free Beacon tells us “Biden took the stage and described climate change as an ‘existential threat to human existence as we know it’ that was ‘already ravaging the world.’ Each world leader was allowed three minutes to speak, but Biden’s remarks lasted more than 11 minutes. At one point, he [needlessly] apologized to the world for former president Donald Trump’s [insightful] decision to withdraw the United States from the [ridiculous] Paris Climate Agreement.”

Still, the damage had already been done. At least insofar as old Al Gore and young Greta Thunberg were concerned. By falling asleep during an international event of such monumental moment and gravity to wealthy white leftists, Joe Biden made it clear to everyone in attendance — and everyone around the world who’s seen the footage — that either the climate theologians are a bunch of snake-oil-selling redistributionists, or he’s simply not up for a job that requires so darn much staying awake. Seriously. There are few jobs that demand more midday awake-staying than the American presidency.

“These can be embarrassing situations,” noted NBC News senior White House reporter Kelly O'Donnell in a fleeting moment of unguarded honesty. “A moment like that … can be a political obstacle. It is also true that the hours are long, the time differences are real, and the president has kept a rigorous schedule over several days, having lots of meetings, appearances, and speeches. And, quite a late night last night.”

We can only imagine.

Former President Donald Trump, who himself knows a thing or two about rigorous schedules and late nights, couldn’t resist weighing in: “Even Biden couldn’t stand hearing so much about the Global Warming Hoax, the 7th biggest Hoax in America, followed closely behind by the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2 and, of course, the ‘No Collusion’ finding of the Mueller Report.”

In defense of Scranton Joe, he fell asleep while enduring the soporific strains of a disability rights activist, who was warning those in attendance that global warming threatened “our ability to grow food and even to survive.”

And so it was that Joe Biden beclowned his country once again on the world stage. But this is no laughing matter. Recently, even the measured members of the Wall Street Journal editorial board came around to this president’s obvious inabilities. After rattling off a few of Biden’s glaring gaffes during a recent town hall with CNN’s friendly Anderson Cooper, they wrote: “We take no pleasure in pointing this out, since the U.S. needs a President who can handle the strains of the job. Mr. Biden was never Demosthenes, and all Presidents stumble in speech. But Mr. Biden’s frequent public confusion about the major issues of the day is a reason for the growing public concern.”

Unfortunately, Joe Biden won’t be waking up anytime soon. We’re nine months down, with 39 yet to go.
