The Patriot Post® · Biden Goes All-in on His Mandate
At least we now have something to shoot at.
For weeks, ever since President Joe Biden announced that he’d be taking the very anti-American step of imposing the COVID-19 vaccine on the American workforce, the threat has been looming. But yesterday, Biden’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration made it official. OSHA issued an “emergency temporary standard,” which demands that companies with 100 or more employees require each and every one of them to inject that foreign substance into their bodies. Either that, or they’ll have to undergo onerous weekly testing and wear those ridiculous diapers on their faces.
Separately, Biden’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a vaccine mandate for healthcare facilities with no testing option.
As the Wall Street Journal editorial board notes: “Covid cases and hospitalization have blessedly plunged since the summer Delta surge as more Americans have been vaccinated or acquired natural immunity. Yet the Biden administration is still fighting the last virus war, and [its mandate] will likely do more harm than good.” How? The mandate comes amid a historically tight labor market and supply chain shortages, and any such incentive for workers to walk off the job seems stupid on its face.
There’s also the matter of law and order. When violent Democrat-run cities like New York and Chicago try to force the vaccination on their cops and first responders, they’re going to get some blowback. And public safety will suffer as a result.
The same holds for border security, such as it isn’t. Thousands of Border Patrol agents are at risk of losing their jobs if they don’t comply with Uncle Joe’s order. Of course, even less border security is a feature, not a bug, for the open-borders Biden administration.
OSHA’s 490-page (we kid you not) rule will come into effect on January 4, by which time even more Americans will have contracted the illness, survived it, and moved us further along toward herd immunity. (Anyone who doubts the scientific fact of herd immunity should try to explain how heavily populated and refreshingly free Florida has the lowest COVID infection rate in the nation.)
Once again: We in our humble shop believe vaccines — whether for polio or measles or smallpox or COVID — are a good and helpful thing for most folks, but we also believe that mandatory vaccinations are an affront to Essential Liberty and should be denounced and resisted as such.
But, hey, Big Pharma and Big Government have a lot of money invested in these vaccines, and natural immunity is a serious and pervasive threat to their profits and power.
Indeed, not even the children are immune from the ravenous reach of Pfizer and BioNTech. Take the once-magnificent city of San Francisco, for example, which seems to keep lurching leftward, and where children ages 5-11 will soon be required to comply with the city’s vaccine mandate in order to enter places such as shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
It’d be one thing if these vaccines were being forced on a population that’s particularly vulnerable, but the data have shown all along that young people are the least vulnerable among us. Care to guess how many San Franciscans under age 21 have succumbed to the China virus since the pandemic began?
Zero. Yep, zero.
According to the city’s official COVID tracker, not a single one of the 664 residents who’ve died from the virus was under 21. Incidentally, zero is the exact same number of young people who’ve been done in by runaway streetcars and falling safes. The San Francisco Department of Health, whose bureaucrats no doubt lie awake in bed at night worrying about the 0% chance that their city’s children will be snuffed out by COVID-19, should instead ask themselves whether allowing kids to travel in automobiles is really worth the risk.
Speaking of young people and do-as-I-say not-as-I-do statism, we wonder: Has California Governor Gavin Newsom’s daughter been vaccinated yet? After all, he was the first governor in the union to issue a statewide vaccine mandate for all K-12 kids.
Where the workplace and American workers are concerned, we don’t think this misguided mandate will stand, at least not legally. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt plans to put that proposition to the test, as he announced yesterday his plans to sue the Biden administration over the mandate.
Let the lawsuits begin. And not a moment too soon.
UPDATE: Following Missouri’s lead, more than 15 states have now filed lawsuits against the Biden administration over its federal vaccine mandate, calling it “unconstitutional, unlawful, and unwise.”
