House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has important plans for targeting the Biden administration beginning on Day One, should the Republicans regain control of the House following the 2022 midterms. That’s a prospect that appears increasingly likely.

According to Axios, McCarthy has a list of at least seven investigations that Republicans would initiate upon taking over the House. The list of planned investigations is as follows:

• IRS: Who leaked that “vast cache of IRS information” about billionaires to ProPublica? And how should Congress rein in the IRS?

• National Security Agency: Tucker Carlson last summer accused the spy agency of targeting his show’s communications. The NSA said he was never an “intelligence target.”

• Parents: Attorney General Merrick Garland's vow to mobilize the FBI against “threats of violence against school board members” after the National School Boards Association used the phrase “domestic terrorism.” The association apologized for its letter, but the Justice Department is still moving forward.

• Border: Record levels of illegal immigration, including a deadly flow of opioids.

• COVID: Origins of the virus, and CDC communications about school closures and mask mandates.

• Afghanistan: Decisions behind Joe Biden’s surrender and retreat, and an accounting of Americans who remain stranded.

• JEDI: A disputed cloud-computing contract with Microsoft canceled by the Pentagon.

Of course, as the adage warns, Republicans should beware of counting their chickens before they hatch. That said, all indicators thus far show a massive red wave building. In fact, recent polling numbers show Americans’ support for Republicans setting a record of 10 points over Democrats heading into 2022.

McCarthy is right to be preparing for the future, not only due to the likelihood of the Republicans regaining the House, but also for campaign reasons. Republicans will now have a list of specific grievances and concerns directly connected to the Biden administration that they can take to voters. Americans want to see problems addressed and solutions proposed, and those problems must be fully identified before any certain solutions can be put forward.
