Don’t look now, but Joe Biden is on the cusp of signing another nuclear deal with Iran that’s worse than the one his old boss, Barack Obama, infamously agreed to. In the midst of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an act that has brought to the forefront the threat of nuclear weapons being used by power-obsessed individuals like Vladimir Putin, the Biden administration is putting the finishing touches on a nuclear deal that will primarily benefit both Iran and Russia, while at the same time endangering the rest of the world.

Biden’s deal would lift sanctions against Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, granting Tehran access to over $100 billion that the regime would use to further its terroristic agenda.

The deal also offers a weak enforcement structure to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, while at the same time essentially giving a wink and a nod to the existence of Tehran’s illegal infrastructure for nuclear development.

Furthermore, Russia — the nation that launched an unprovoked war on Ukraine — would be entrusted with holding custody over Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. Anyone wonder if Russia would release that stockpile to Iran should the U.S. impose future sanctions?

And regarding Iran’s history of sponsoring terrorism, Biden’s State Department might even rescind its terrorism designation on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. American Gold Star family members have called on Biden not to release funds to Iran until the regime pays $60 billion in judgments owned to the victims of IRGC terrorism.

That the Biden administration is even considering such a deal in the light of the fact that Donald Trump’s maximum pressure approach to Iran was bearing significant results might be the worst factor regarding this deal. Trump threw out Obama’s deal and was instead strangling Iran’s terrorist regime, choking its access to foreign exchange down to just $4 billion. More importantly, Tehran’s ability to enrich uranium was also being significantly hampered.

The fact of the matter is that Trump’s approach toward Iran was producing good results; the murderous regime was beginning to buckle under the constraints. And now Biden has not only thrown all that progress away, but his new deal will work to ensure that it will be much more difficult for future U.S. presidents to exert a similar maximum pressure campaign against the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism. It’s almost as if Iran came up with this deal as a pretext to appear as if its nuclear ambitions were being held in check by the West to provide cover for it to continue pursuing its goals unabated.
