The Patriot Post® · Kamala's European Vacation: The Sequel
In the continuing search for activities to create the impression that Kamala Harris is a competent, “hands-on” vice president, she’s being sent to Poland and Romania, including a possible stop to visit American troops in Romania and perhaps even a trip to the border with Ukraine. According to Harris’s deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh, “Her visit will demonstrate the strength and unity of the NATO Alliance and U.S. support for NATO’s eastern flank allies in the face of Russian aggression [and] highlight our collective efforts to support the people of Ukraine.” The trip is supposed to run through Friday, so the question is how much damage her “inability to talk normally” can do to our credibility in three days.
Obviously, that area of Europe has drawn a lot of the Biden administration’s attention in recent days, as the VP’s visit will follow on the heels of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s trip to Belgium, Poland, Moldova, and the Baltic states, as well as phone conversations between Joe Biden and Polish President Andrzej Duda and other regional leaders.
But sending Harris again — she just came back from the Munich Security Conference in Germany last week, so at least now she can say she’s been to Europe — risks insulting the intelligence of our allies. After all, her idea of explaining the situation in layman’s terms comes out as this tripe: “Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine, so basically that’s wrong.” As The Federalist’s Ben Domenech pithily noted, “You will hear higher levels of explanation of international affairs in Peppa Pig.”
More to the point, though, Kamala trying to sound like the smartest person in the room leads to a lot of valid questions from Republicans and others. Representative Andy Biggs led off by asking: “Kamala Harris has not succeeded in any of the tasks that have been assigned to her. Why are we sending her to Europe again next week?” British author Douglas Murray tagged in with his own answer, quipping, “It’s possible [Joe Biden] is expecting that Kamala will say so many banal things for such a long time that the conflict will be over by then.”
The only bit of good news regarding the trip is that having VP Harris out of the country prevents Senate Democrats from having a tiebreaker for their majority. But that’s small comfort when the alternative is sending a political neophyte to tangle with a leader who’s not afraid to play dirty. It’s been two weeks since our Mark Alexander observed: “Once Blinken and Sherman failed, Biden pulled out all the stops and dispatched Kamala Harris to stand guard over the Ukraine border. Apparently, she has been so successful as Biden’s ‘southern border czar’ — ostensibly protecting the nation from now more than two million illegal immigrants she and Biden have enticed across our border — that he believes Harris is uniquely prepared to keep Russians from crossing Ukraine’s border. Perhaps Biden thought Cackling Kamala could giggle Putin into submission, or use her mantra, ‘It is time for us to do what we have been doing. And that time is every day,’ to puzzle Putin into retreat.”
Remember when we heard the discussion about how the vice president had to bring “gravitas” to the ticket? Unfortunately, diversity in gender and skin color don’t add up to the same thing and we’re finding out now why that matters.
