The Patriot Post® · Weak Joe Caves to Iran and Russia on Nukes
Joe Biden continues to make a mess of geopolitics and global security. Having failed to convince Russia to refrain from invading the sovereign nation of Ukraine, he’s now setting his sights on making Iran a nuclear power.
Iran’s mad mullahs with nukes? What could go wrong?
Biden is hell-bent on stitching back together the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action deal that his old boss, Barack Obama, “negotiated” with Iran back in 2015, with the surreptitious help of a planeload of pallets laden with $1.7 billion in American cash.
As soon as he took office, Donald Trump tore up that agreement, calling it “the worst deal ever,” and he was right. But Joe Biden being who he is, and Trump-deranged Democrats being obsessed with undoing every bit of good Trump ever did, here we are. And, as desperate as Biden is to make a deal, this one promises to be even worse than the original.
For starters, Biden has put Russia in charge of the negotiations. That’s right: Vladimir Putin, the Butcher of Moscow, is calling the shots. His people are serving as go-betweens, since the Iranians won’t even sit at the same table with us. But there’s more. As Fred Fleitz reports at The Federalist:
Making this worse, Russia is trying to exploit its prominent role in the new agreement by demanding that Russian trade with Iran — much of it weapons-related — be exempted from tough global sanctions imposed on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday claimed the Biden administration conceded on this issue.
The agreement was put on hold last week, responding to Russia’s demand. However, many experts believe Russia wants to kill the new nuclear deal to keep oil prices high by preventing Iran from increasing oil exports. According to the Financial Times, Iran could export an additional 2 million barrels of oil per day under the new agreement.
What must the Iranians be thinking? Oh, perhaps something like, How could an American president be so easy to roll? Even our negotiators have been quitting rather than being forced by Team Biden to give away the store. As The Wall Street Journal reported in January: “Richard Nephew, the deputy special envoy for Iran, has left the team. Mr. Nephew, an architect of previous economic sanctions on Iran, had advocated a tougher posture in the current negotiations, and he hasn’t attended the talks in Vienna since early December.” Two other U.S. team members also stepped away for the same reason.
The Iranians, the world’s leading state sponsors of anti-American terrorism, are no doubt loving every minute of the Biden presidency. If you don’t believe it, check out this video of an interview with Russia’s chief negotiator, Mikhail Ulyanov. Through heavily accented English, we can still hear him praising his Iranian friends. “[They are] fighting for [their] national interest like lions. They fight for every comma, every word, and as a rule, quite successfully. … I am absolutely sincere in this regard when I say that Iran got much more than it could expect. Our Chinese friends were also very efficient and useful as co-negotiators.”
Great. So it’s Iran, Russia, and China on one side, and Scranton Joe on the other. So much for American national interest.
Remember when former Bush and Obama Defense Secretary Robert Gates noted that Biden has been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades”? We can now add one more issue to that lengthy list.
Joe Biden is the gift who keeps on giving. To America’s enemies.
