“RECUSE!” they shrieked.

We’re speaking of angry, embittered leftists, of course, who now have another reason to hate The Great Clarence Thomas: his wife, Ginni.

Virginia Thomas, you see, happens to be a supporter of Donald Trump. So not only is the 73-year-old Thomas a rock-ribbed black conservative, he’s also married to a white she-devil. And that’s why, to no one’s surprise — because no act of treachery or thievery is beneath a Beltway leftist — a collection of 29 text messages between Mrs. Thomas and Trump’s then-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, was surreptitiously leaked last week to The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, likely by someone on Nancy Pelosi’s histrionic J6 commission.

All but one of the messages are from November 2020, during the days just after the presidential election — just after gaffe-prone, basement-bound, 77-year-old Joe Biden somehow managed to haul in 81 million votes.

As the Wall Street Journal editorial board notes: “The Post hypes the messages as showing ‘how Ginni Thomas used her access to Trump’s inner circle to promote and seek to guide the president’s strategy to overturn the election results.’ Sounds nefarious, until you understand that the back and forth added up to nothing meaningful.”

Of those we’ve seen, our favorite message is this one, from November 10, one week after the election, just after excruciatingly close losses in Wisconsin, Georgia, and Arizona had given Biden the presidency, and accusations of electronic vote fraud were at their peak:

Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!! You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.

This, to us, sounds like the sentiment of a garden-variety Trump supporter — the kind of sentiment that any such supporter might’ve expressed to Trump’s chief of staff in the days after that deeply troubling election. What they most certainly don’t sound like are the words of an ingenious attempt “to guide the president’s strategy to overturn the election results.” (Nearly two months later, Thomas joined thousands of others in attending President Trump’s January 6 “Stop the Steal” rally, though she managed to avoid getting arrested and thrown into solitary for months on end because she left before the protesters became a mob and entered the Capitol.)

So why the leak? Why the trampling of this private citizen’s rights? As the editorial board continues: “The leak may have been an act of revenge against Mrs. Thomas for signing a letter … that objected to the creation of the Jan. 6 committee and called on the House GOP to expel committee members Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger from their conference.”

Of course, the leak may serve another purpose: to tar Justice Thomas ahead of major High Court decisions on guns and abortion rights. Thomas’s recusal in any of these cases could make the difference between a narrow constitutional victory and a narrow loss to the statist left, or a 4-4 status quo stalemate.

As for recusal, that’s certainly what they’re gunning for. Democrats well remember how nicely it worked out for them when they browbeat Trump’s attorney general, Jeff Sessions, into recusing himself early on from their Russia collusion criminal conspiracy.

Not surprisingly, though, those on the Left have hitched their recusal wagon to a hypocritical star. As the Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley points out, their ethics here are “situational,” and he cites one example after another of leftist double-standardry. Like the one where a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals judge refused to recuse himself from a case involving the American Civil Liberties Union, even though his wife had served as an ACLU executive director. Or the one where a judge on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals is married to the national legal director of the ACLU. Perhaps even more germane is the case of Thomas’s fellow Supreme Court justice, Elena Kagan, who refused to recuse herself when ObamaCare came before the High Court, despite her having previously been neck-deep in the administration’s ObamaCare legal strategy as its solicitor general.

You get the idea. And, we’re sure, so does Justice Thomas. And yet an unhinged Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demanded that he resign or face impeachment.

As our Emmy Griffin put it earlier this month, Clarence Thomas is viewed by those on the Left as “the ‘wrong kind’ of black person.” Let’s hope, where these recuseniks are concerned, the Good Justice tells them to pound sand.
