Top of the Fold

  • Another month of steady job growth: The economy added 431,000 jobs in March, coming in a bit below the anticipated number of 490,000, but perhaps easing fears of a slowing economy. Furthermore, February’s numbers were revised upward from 678,000 to 750,000. The headline unemployment rate dipped to 3.6% while the overall unemployment rate also saw a slight drop of 0.3% to come in at 6.9%. “All in all, nothing shocking about this report,” notes State Street Global Advisors chief economist Simona Mocuta. She added that “even if this report came in at zero, I would still say this is a very healthy labor market.” Unsurprisingly, with the ending of the COVID pandemic, the sector showing the biggest employment gains was the leisure and hospitality industry, coming in at 102,000 jobs added. The negative news is that minimal 0.4% wage gains are woefully inadequate to address 40-year-high inflation. The Federal Reserve’s preferred measure rose 5.4% in February, the highest since 1983.

  • The White House goes all in on “transgenderism”: “Starting on April 11, US citizens will be able to select an X as their gender marker on their US passport application, and the option will become available for other forms of documentation next year,” announced Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday. DHS’s “general-neutral” passport announcement was one of several actions coming from the White House on International Transgender Day of Visibility to signal Joe Biden’s commitment to promoting the “transgender” agenda. Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services also released a document titled “Gender Affirming Care and Young People” in which it endorsed “gender reassignment surgery” and other treatments for minors. To cap off the “transgender holiday,” the White House invited “record-setting” Amy Schneider, a man who identifies as a woman, to celebrate his achievement as the first “woman” to win $1 million on “Jeopardy!” Evidently, these clowns think that anything a woman can do, a man identifying as a woman can do better.

  • Socialist Sanders exposes his own greed: Vermont socialist Senator Bernie Sanders wants almost all the money. He made this clear in his new tax proposal in which he advocates a 95% tax on businesses’ profits in certain situations. Of course, he advocates for this ridiculous legalization of government theft against big business by falsely asserting that they have been ripping off Americans. Without evidence, Sanders claims that big business has been price-gouging the public throughout the pandemic. That’s awfully ironic given the fact that is was government, not business, that shut down the economy, forcing millions of Americans out of work and creating the current ballooning inflation rate. But never mind that reality; Sanders insists, “The time has come for Congress to work for working families and demand that big corporations pay their fair share.” So when will the time come for the biggest and most inefficient corporation of them all, the federal government, to stop gouging the American taxpayer and cut its massive out-of-control spending? Sanders, like all socialists, is not really interested in “fairness.” What he wants is to accumulate more power to government officials like himself. He wants the money to spend it on his own agenda.
