The Patriot Post® · Hillary Chides Deplorables for Their Ingratitude
You ungrateful Americans just don’t understand all the things Democrats have done for you. What are you, a bunch of deplorables?
That’s more or less what Hillary Clinton said over the weekend, as she lamented the fact that Democrats aren’t polling better and are staring down a serious shellacking this November.
Clinton declared, “President Biden is doing a very good job.”
She complained: “I’m not quite sure what the disconnect is between the accomplishments of the administration and this Congress and the understanding of what’s been done and the impact it will have on the American public and some of the polling and the ongoing hand-wringing. We’ve got a great story to tell and we’ve got to get out there and do a better job of telling it.”
The first thing that strikes us about that comment is to recall who truly had a right to say it: Donald Trump. Some portion of 81 million* Americans chose personality over policy in 2020, preferring Basement Joe to Trump’s actual accomplishments on behalf of the American people. Trump’s immense and meaningful legacy created security and prosperity that prepared the nation to weather a global pandemic. Just imagine for a moment if COVID came after Hillary Clinton had had three years to continue the economic doldrums of Barack Obama. Or if the pandemic was beginning just now after a year of Joe Biden.
The thought makes us shudder.
Why? Because of the second thing that comes to mind. Democrats, led by the people who tell Biden what to say and do, have run the country into the ground over the last year. Inflation handicaps the entire economy. Sky-high gas prices gouge family budgets. National security is utterly precarious after Biden’s disastrous retreat from Afghanistan, which encouraged and enabled Vladimir Putin to stage the biggest European invasion since World War II. Cultural devolution has come for your children. Free speech is on the precipice.
And Hillary has the gall to complain that we’re not grateful?
Perhaps no one engages in the psychological warfare tactic of projection like Clinton. Whatever faults are hers, whatever awful practices are her party’s, she indignantly blames the other side. Every. Time.
Case in point: The Republican Party, she alleges, “has now gone to the extreme and are saying and doing things that have no basis in reality.” Reality? Does she mean things like saying preborn babies aren’t yet alive? Or insisting that a man can claim to be a woman and win whatever sporting event he likes? Or arguing that tax cuts for everyone are only for the wealthy? Or boasting that Democrat pandemic measures saved lives? Or claiming that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure in history?
None of those Democrat tall tales have any basis in reality. Ironically, we might recast one of her comments as acknowledging that fact: “I don’t think the average American, frankly, wants to be governed by people who live in a totally different reality.”
While Democrats are indeed the ones in that “different reality,” Hillary’s projection tactic is to have you believe that all the “craziness” and “nuttiness” is on the Republican side.
What’s crazy and nutty? Asserting, as Hillary did, that Biden’s performance on Ukraine has been “excellent.” Boasting about how Democrats have “a great story to tell.”
It’s a story, alright — a fairytale, and a deplorable one at that.
