Top of the Fold

  • Bidenflation has Americans cutting costs and buying generics: As the inflation rate was jumping last year because of Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan, he made what was eventually a failed effort to get his Build Back Better socialist boondoggle through Congress. He promised that the spiking inflation rate, now at a 40-year high, would be only temporary. To help buttress his clearly erroneous claim, Democrats sought and trumpeted the opinion of several Nobel Prize-winning economists. Led by Joseph Stiglitz, they sent an open letter declaring that, despite the clear indications to the contrary, new money from the government would produce no inflation. Maybe these economists ought to go back to school because their opinions were more political than practical. Meanwhile, Americans are suffering from the high inflation and are buying fewer items and more generic brands in an effort to cut costs, as the high inflation is proving to be anything but temporary.

  • Biden “never” talked business with Hunter, yet wrote a recommendation letter for his Chinese buddy: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was questioned over the recent revelation that Joe Biden had written a college letter of recommendation for the son of one of Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partners. Psaki was asked, “[Is it] common for President Biden to do favors for Hunter Biden’s international business partners, like writing college recommendations?” Psaki responded with a classic dodge: “I have no confirmation or comment on a report about whether or not the president, when he was a private citizen, wrote a college recommendation letter for an individual.” But Fox News’s Peter Doocy, who had raised the question, continued to press by asking, “Do we know what the president might have gotten in return for doing a favor like that?” Once again, Psaki dodged with the Biden was a “private citizen” excuse. Recall that Biden repeatedly declared he never had, nor even spoke about, business dealings with his son, Hunter. A dubious claim given the evidence from Hunter’s infamous laptop that increasingly suggests otherwise.

  • The CDC is trying to rebrand itself: As most of the country has gotten closer to a return to normal following the COVID pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hopes to rehab its severely tarnished image due to its woefully inept response to the pandemic. The agency repeatedly demonstrated it was more beholden to politics than doing sound science, which is why it is now attempting to rebrand itself. The trouble is the Biden administration is doing this not to return the CDC to a sound science-based agency but to make it into even more of a political tool. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the revamping would be conducted by Health and Human Services folks — not an outside, non-government organization. So much accountability, it’s stunning. And don’t forget this rebrand will all be done on the taxpayers’ dime.

  • Michigan Governor Whitmer sues for abortion rights: Democrats are either nervous that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, or they are using it as a fear tactic for political gain. To that end, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has launched a preemptive lawsuit against 13 counties in her state. Whitmer, who is up for reelection this year, is pledging to protect abortion rights by seeking to overturn a ban against abortion in the state’s constitution. Michigan is one of eight states with an unenforced ban on abortion, which was effectively rendered moot in 1973 following SCOTUS’s Roe ruling. Whitmer now wants to enshrine abortion rights into Michigan’s constitution, and she’s banking on it being a winning issue for her come November.
