Hollywood’s progressive wokeness hinges on whether the big wigs think they can earn a buck.

At the Oscars this year, the three hosts — Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall — said “gay” to Florida as a protest to the Parental Rights in Education legislation that the woke media has falsely dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. As is well known, this bill merely bans teachers from formally teaching about sexuality in the classroom in grades K-3 — nowhere in the bill does it ban the utterance of or even use the word “gay.” Hollywood is so committed to push this and other woke agendas to American audiences that the directors, producers, and writers are happy to add unnecessary wokeness to movies.

But that same “bravery” is not upheld when sending films to China.

Warner Brothers is the latest, most blatant offender in this despicable double standard. In the release of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” the third installment in the new Harry Potter spinoff, Beijing demanded that six seconds of the film be cut from the movie before it could be released in China. Those six seconds were in reference to the intimate same-sex relationship between the film’s protagonist and villain. The specific lines were “because I was in love with you” and “the summer Gellert and I fell in love.”

Holly Ash articulates this hypocrisy very succinctly: “If you’re keeping track, telling teachers in Florida that they can’t talk to preschoolers about sex is an attack on gay people, but China telling a movie to cut out a gay storyline is totally cool.”

This is not the first time Hollywood has bowed to the ChiCom regime where films are concerned. Films such as “Fight Club,” “Dr. Strange,” “Titanic,” “Red Dawn” and the forthcoming “Top Gun” sequel were altered to appease Chinese censorship and garner the revenue of that nation’s large market. Hollywood is so in the pocket of China that actor John Cena infamously apologized to the Chinese — in Mandarin — for daring to call Taiwan its own country.

As blatant as the kowtowing to China is, it does provide a glimmer of hope for audiences here in the states who are tired of the wokeness in Hollywood. China has shown us that Americans can also wield the weapon of market power when it comes to movies. If the content is offensive, don’t waste your dollars to see these movies that promote woke values. Hollywood’s “values” only go as deep as our pocketbooks. China has proven that.
