When Abraham Lincoln campaigned for the presidency in 1858, the clouds of war were building. Southern radicals and radical abolitionists were each pushing for action — the South to defend slavery, the North to end it. Lincoln (quoting Jesus) said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand!” Obviously, cooler heads did not prevail; America went through four years of a brutal war that cost over 600,000 lives.
Today, the same leftists are working to divide us. Jesus’ words ring louder and clearer than ever!
I’ve tried to break down this political battle between conservatives and progressives. I have friends who are dyed-in-the-wool Democrats who tell me they are Christians and believe marriage is between a man and a woman. They are opposed to abortion and are concerned about the push for more gender confusion. Yet, they vote for Democrats every single time.
If I were to just pick the topic of abortion, we are in total agreement that it is wrong and it is a sin that is defiling our nation. I remind them that during the 2020 campaign, the head of the Democratic National Committee said, “There is no place in the Democrat Party for pro-lifers.” I say, “They don’t want you anymore; why do you vote for them?” What I usually get is something about Trump or mean tweets — nothing that addresses the reality that progressives are dragging Democrats off a cliff.
Think about what has happened since the Barack Obama days. Obama was against gay marriage until he was reelected. He flip-flopped on the issue, and the Supreme Court made it the law of the land. Back then, knowing what bathroom to use was not a difficult decision. Now, we have states mandating a person can use whichever bathroom he or she identifies with.
Men who are mediocre in men’s sports can identify as a woman and win all kinds of awards. Feminism must be dead because the voices of those who once championed the rights of women are silent. It’s not enough to “tolerate” those with such behavior; they want to force us to accept their lifestyle.
As a Christian, I believe we (the Church) failed decades ago to have influence with those in the homosexual lifestyle. Jesus loved people, but hated sin. He loved the person, but not their behavior. For decades, I worked with people of many lifestyles who were in bondage to various addictions. My goal was to love them, but help them be free from whatever was holding them captive.
Today, anyone who questions what once was wrong is targeted for destruction. The Left takes no prisoners. A small minority of people on the Left wield enormous power and can destroy the lives of those who would stand up to them. Right now, they dominate the Democrat Party.
Like the prophets of the Old Testament who called on those who loved God to separate themselves from evil before it was too late, today, many moderate Democrats need to determine whose side they are on.
Elijah challenged the 850 false prophets of Baal, saying, “If Baal is God serve him, but if Jehovah is God serve him.” They said nothing until the fire fell. Don’t wait. It’s no longer Republican or Democrat; it’s right or wrong, good or evil.
