Top of the Fold

  • Biden’s immigration policies aren’t winning in court: On Monday, a Louisiana federal judge temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s decision to end Title 42, the “public health” provision that was instituted by the Trump administration in March 2020 as COVID hit. Title 42 allows for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to immediately expel illegal immigrants caught crossing the border without having to go through the lengthy deportation process. The Biden administration set the date of May 23 to end the provision that has been effectively used to expel more than 1.7 million illegal immigrants since the start of the pandemic. Meanwhile, Joe Biden got more potentially bad news, as the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to his administration’s decision to repeal Donald Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols, otherwise known as the “Remain in Mexico” asylum policy. The policy established an agreement with Mexico that non-Mexican asylum seekers would be required to stay in Mexico while their requests were being processed. This measure effectively cut down on the number of dubious asylum requests.

  • Schumer and Pelosi funnel millions of anonymous cash into midterm coffers: There’s no darker money in politics than that which fills the election coffers of Democrats, which is ironic given the fact that those most often lamenting money in politics happen to be Democrats. As Democrats face an uphill battle to maintain control of Congress, we learn that Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have ties to nonprofit PACs that have poured some $20 million from hidden donors into the campaigns of Democrat candidates. When challenged about the lack of transparency, Democrat nonprofit Majority Forward blamed Republicans: “Corporate Republicans are the only ones standing in the way of increasing transparency and making progress on campaign finance reform.” According to Fox News, “Majority Forward’s midterm funding follows the $60 million the group had injected into the 2020 elections to help Democrats regain the Senate majority. It has now pushed $75 million into elections over the two cycles — a drastic increase over the $5.5 million it had injected for the 2016 and 2018 elections combined.” The fact of the matter is that the Democrats’ dark money contributions have significantly outpaced those of Republicans. The question remains: Who’s behind all this cash?

  • BLM’s corporate donors mum about spike in black murders: In the wake of George Floyd’s death and the months of rioting and protests that followed, several big corporations donated millions of dollars in support of Black Lives Matter and its leftist social justice causes such as “defund the police.” Sadly but predictably, emotions trumped sober reasoning, as the facts on the ground did not support the false narrative of systemic racism being promulgated by BLM. But none of that mattered because corporate America was eager to virtue signal its opposition to systemic racism. Now, nearly two years on from 2020’s summer of BLM rioting, the violent crime rate has spiked across the nation, and those most negatively impacted live in black inner-city communities. For example, the murder rate among black Americans has jumped 32% since 2019. The Manhattan Institute’s Heather Mac Donald argues that the “spike was not at all related to COVID” because the rise in murders among blacks “began months after lockdowns” and “only after riots.” Meanwhile, those leftist corporations that were so vocal in their support of BLM have gone suddenly quiet when it comes to the deadly violence now plaguing black Americans — violence that is predominately black-on-black.
