We suppose the good news is that Democrats have discovered that laws should not be written by a majority of nine robed jurists but by the people’s elected representatives. The bad news is, now that Democrats seem to have lost Roe v. Wade, they’re looking to pass constitutionally dubious federal legislation to codify the “right” to an abortion, usurping state authority (again) and putting millions of babies’ right to life back on the chopping block.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer promised a Wednesday vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, which already passed the House in September. “We are focused like a laser on getting this vote shortly and on the 2022 elections,” Schumer said last week. He added: “Every American is going to see which side every senator stands. A vote on this legislation is not an abstract exercise. This is as urgent and real as it gets.”

Indeed it is. It was bad enough that seven judicial despots wiped out the state laws of 50 states in discovering a “right” to abortion — followed by the deaths of more than 60 million babies since 1973. Now Schumer wants 50 senators to do the same, and he and most other Democrats are even willing to eliminate the filibuster to make it happen. (It was filibustered in February already, and at most 49 current senators support it.)

“Just how radical is the WHPA?” asks National Review’s John McCormack. “Let us count the ways.” Here’s his list: “The WHPA creates a right to abortion through all nine months of pregnancy; The WHPA would strike down almost all state laws on abortion, including parental-consent and parental-notification laws; The WHPA would gut conscience protections; The WHPA creates a right for non-doctors to perform abortions, even after viability.”

So why vote on this radical bill if it’s doomed? Schumer thinks laying down such a marker will help Democrat prospects in November.

Democrats are also counting on a friendly media to cover for them. Senator Richard Blumenthal crafted the bill last year, but according to veteran political analyst Byron York, “the 2022 version of the Blumenthal bill is not the 2021 version of the bill.” Democrats watered it down, York says, to make it “more palatable to more people.”

One huge example of language cut from the bill is its justification: “Reproductive Justice requires every individual to have the right to make their own decisions about having children regardless of their circumstances and without interference and discrimination.” As we’ve argued elsewhere, putting a modifier in front of the word “justice,” even if both words are capitalized, means we’re no longer getting justice. But just because Democrats cut that wording doesn’t mean it doesn’t remain the rationale for the bill.

Another cut dealt with what York called “its tortured use of the words ‘women’ and ‘woman.’” You guessed it — the bill originally included language explaining that women simply make up the “majority of people targeted” by various restrictions on abortion, though using the word doesn’t take away from the Democrats’ alternate reality in which abortion access “is critical to the health of every person capable of becoming pregnant.” Even still, the title of the 2022 version marks the only appearance of the word “women.”

The only reason offending language is gone is because it doesn’t poll well, and Democrats facing an uphill election battle in 2022 really need to poll well.

The vast majority of Americans today know that life begins at conception, even if many are unwilling to admit it. The vast majority of the rest of the world is governed by laws outlawing or severely restricting abortion after the first trimester. Yet Democrats want to join the likes of China and North Korea by federally legalizing abortion for nine months, all the way up until birth. They want to wipe out the laws of dozens of states and, in fact, unconstitutionally regulate the way states regulate abortion.

Above all else, they seem hell-bent on sacrificing children to Molech.
