Wednesday Executive News Summary

The radical Left vs. parents, 35% increase in number of cops shot, Musk would lift Twitter ban on Trump, and more.

Top of the Fold

  • More of the radical Left vs. parents: Parents in Barrington, Rhode Island, are fit to be tied following the school board’s decision to eliminate honors classes. During the early days of the COVID pandemic, the Barrington District School Board adopted an “equity and inclusion” agenda that involved the implementation of a de-leveling system eliminating honors-level classes in an effort to “equalize” students. The result of this de-leveling agenda has been a drop in Barrington’s public schools’ educational ranking. Prior to the de-leveling, U.S. News in 2019 ranked the district’s schools #189. Two years later, the district has dropped to #308. At a recent school board meeting, irate parents voiced their opposition to the “equity” agenda, with many noting how it was costing their children merit-based scholarship opportunities. One mother complained, “My daughter has lost out on opportunities which could affect merit scholarships for her, which I think is appalling.” Another parent noted that his own parents were immigrants from Mexico who did not speak a word of English, and he challenged the notion that the board actually considered those whom it was claiming to assist. “If you guys really believe in [equity], then pick an average or below-average dentist and see what you get,” he said. “But you guys get the ratings, and you pick the best that’s available.” Legal Insurrection founder Bill Jacobson observed where the district’s decision came from: “De-leveling is part of an agenda of equalizing outcomes. This equal-results approach stems from critical race theory and diversity, equity and inclusion, which posit that unequal outcomes are the result of systemic bias and discrimination.”

  • Thirty-five percent increase in number of cops shot: We’re five months into 2022, and the number of police officers who have been shot in the line of duty so far is 123, which represents a 35% increase over this time last year. Of those officers who were shot, 19 have died. If the trend holds, this year would end up worse than 2021, when 346 officer where shot and 63 killed. Numbers like this haven’t been seen since the 1990s. Data shows that prior to 2020, the number of police officers attacked and shot had been steadily declining, but over the past two years the trend has dramatically reversed. Of course, Black Lives Matter’s anti-police rhetoric, which has been widely trumpeted by leftist politicians, has much to do with the sudden turn-around. Demonizing police only serves to encourage those with already nefarious motives to feel justified in fighting police. Coinciding with the attacks on cops have been spiking violent crime rates across the country, especially in Democrat-run cities.

  • Musk would lift Twitter ban on Trump: On Tuesday, the prospective new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, said that he’d lift the social media platform’s ban on Donald Trump. Speaking at a Future of the Car conference, Musk stated: “Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts. … I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.” He then added, “I would reverse the permanent ban.” Trump, for his part, has stated that he will not return to Twitter, as he has launched his own social media platform, Truth Social. “I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot,” Trump said. “He’s an excellent individual. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Twitter. I won’t be going back on Twitter.” That said, some within Trump’s inner circle believe he will likely go back. One thing’s for sure: Musk wants him back, because if anything it’ll be good for business.
