ISIS plot to assassinate George W. Bush busted: The Justice Department recently announced that it has thwarted an assassination plot against former President George W. Bush and charged an Iraqi citizen who was living in Columbus, Ohio, with aiding in it. The suspect, Shihab Ahmed Shihab Shihab, arrived in the U.S. via a visitor visa in 2020 and had subsequently filed an asylum request that was pending. As part of the plot, Shihab had paid individuals to illegally smuggle in an assassination team of foreign coconspirators across the U.S. southern border. But Shihab was more than just the money guy. The FBI affidavit notes, “Shihab stated that he wanted to be involved in the actual attack and assassination of former President Bush and did not care if he died as he would be proud to have been involved in killing former President Bush.” George P. Bush, the nephew of the former president, responded to the news by highlighting Joe Biden’s border crisis: “It just underscores the need for a perspective that this is a national security crisis that’s occurring on our southern border. I’m a military veteran who served in Afghanistan specializing in high value targets and spectacular attacks from ISIS … and this is what I’ve been talking about on the southern border, that if we have a porous and open border policy, it welcomes people.”
San Francisco mayor to skip Pride parade: The Democrat mayor of one of America’s most liberal cities, San Francisco, recently announced that she would not be marching in the city’s annual Pride parade. Mayor London Breed’s somewhat surprising decision is not due to her having a sudden change of heart regarding her support for the LGBTQ agenda; rather it’s in reaction to the Pride parade organization’s actions to ban uniformed police officers from marching in the event. San Francisco Pride executive director Suzanne Ford had defended the parade’s restriction against uniformed officers by saying that “for members of our community, the presence of the police in the parade is difficult for them given their history with the police department, so we want to honor and make sure we protect and make people feel safe.” For her part, Breed is standing behind her pro-law enforcement comments made last December: “It’s time that the reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end. And it comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies. And less tolerant of all the bulls**t that has destroyed our city.”
Indiana legislature overrides veto of law banning boys in girls’ sports: By a House vote of 67-28 and a Senate vote of 32-15, Indiana’s Republican-controlled legislature overrode Republican Governor Eric Holcomb’s veto of HB 1041, saving a bill that banned male-born athletes from competing in girls’ sports. “The purpose of this bill,” explained sponsor and Republican state Representative Michelle Davis, “is to maintain fair competition in girls’ sports now and in the future. As a former Division I athlete, I know that female athletes deserve fair competition and an even playing field, and this bill ensures just that: a fair and equal opportunity to compete for Hoosier girls.” Indiana now becomes the 17th state to enact measures aimed at protecting girls’ sports. Governor Holcomb justified his decision to veto the bill this past March by suggesting it created an inconsistent policy that would invite lawsuits. Following the override, the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana announced a lawsuit on behalf of a male 10-year-old student who competes in girls’ softball.
