The Patriot Post® · It's a Crisis of Competence for Wrong-Track Democrats
If you’re a Democrat, you have to be wondering how this thing ends.
Joe Biden keeps shuffling along and diminishing us on the world stage, Nancy Pelosi keeps force-feeding us junk food and phony testimony from the J6 nostalgia files, and no one within the Democrat Party seems to remember the timeless advice of the Ragin’ Cajun.
“It’s the economy, stupid,” said former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville some three decades ago. And whaddya know? It still is. Were anyone to ask him today, he might also reflect on how this Democrat Party ain’t his daddy’s Democrat Party. Heck, it’s not even Bill Clinton’s Democrat Party. Ever since Barack Obama put his stamp on the party, they’ve thrown in with the wokesters and the grievance-mongers and the coastal elites, and they’ve abandoned the working class to the Republicans.
Thank you very much.
“I remember vividly when, just before I turned 18 years old,” writes Rene Lopez, a Navy veteran, city councilman, and Republican congressional candidate for Arizona’s 4th District, “my father filled out my selective service paperwork and voter registration and, against my protests, registered me as a Democrat.” Lopez continued: “To my father, it did not matter that I considered myself a Republican, because, as he put it, ‘Our family are Democrats.’ My family saw this as an essential plank of our identity. ‘We are Mexican. We are Catholic. We are Democrats.’ My family believed that the Democratic [sic] Party looked out for working families and stood for their values.”
Again, that isn’t today’s Democrat Party, which seems utterly consumed with issues nowhere near the kitchen table: obsessively investigating a president who’s been out of office for 17 months, defunding our cops, defending our criminals, refusing to secure our borders, infusing wokeness into our military, fighting for biological men to compete against our daughters, locking down our businesses, shutting our schools, teaching black and brown kids that they’re oppressed and that their white classmates are the oppressors, and the list goes on.
But now, finally, after decades of unquestioning loyalty, “Working-class families are finally taking notice,” writes Lopez.
He continues: “It is hard to imagine anything more out of touch with the values held by families like my own than Stephen Colbert telling his audience, ‘I’m willing to pay $4 a gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon because I drive a Tesla,’ while working-class families are trying to figure out how to afford groceries and fill their gas tanks.”
.@StephenAtHome: “Today, the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high of over $4/gallon. OK, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two. It’s important. I’m willing to pay $4/gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon b/c I drive a Tesla” pic.twitter.com/my8Ukya5rQ

Bingo. What a tone-deaf thing to say. As if everyone can afford to trade in that 12-year-old beater for a shiny new $60,000 electric vehicle.
But Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats aren’t merely coughing up congressional districts that are 84% Hispanic; they’re alienating everyone. They simply can’t seem to govern, can’t seem to focus on the things that matter. This coming holiday weekend, for example, we’re expecting to see thousands of flight delays and cancellations as the airline industry and the government blame each other for the impending chaos. What gives? Why is it suddenly so hard to hop on a plane? Even in those crummy Soviet-era satellite countries, the trains tended to run on time.
The deep deniers at The New York Times are hoping you don’t notice who’s steering the ship. Indeed, they just wrote this piece on how inflation is causing changes in folks’ behavior, but not once did they mention Joe Biden’s name or even the word “Democrat.”
The folks aren’t fooled, though. A brand-new AP-NORC poll shows that hardly anyone in the country thinks we’re on the right track.
As the AP reports: “An overwhelming and growing majority of Americans say the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction, including nearly 8 in 10 Democrats, according to a new poll that finds deep pessimism about the economy plaguing President Joe Biden.”
That a majority of us are on edge about the economy and inflation and a doubling of gas prices and rising crime and a porous southern border and a feckless foreign policy shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. But when 78% of Democrats think we’re heading in the wrong direction, that spells big trouble for the party in power.
“Eighty-five percent of U.S. adults say the country is on the wrong track,” the AP article continues, “and 79% describe the economy as poor. … The findings suggest Biden faces fundamental challenges as he tries to motivate voters to cast ballots for Democrats in November’s midterm elections.”
We’ll say. The AP poll gives Biden a 39% job approval number, but even that anemic number seems inflated. It’s held up by a mystifyingly high 72% approval rating from Democrats — who are these people? — but his support drops off a cliff with independents (only 25% approve of the job he’s doing) and Republicans (only 8%). In yesterday’s RealClearPolitics aggregate of polls, Biden dipped under 38% approval for the first time ever. Dude keeps falling off the floor.
Joe Biden and the Democrats have a crisis not of confidence, but of competence. They can’t seem to focus on and effectively execute even the basic functions of government. For Pete’s sake, they can’t even keep baby formula on the shelves.
But, hey, if you don’t care a lick about gas prices and you’re just hankerin’ for a hawt take on how Donald Trump behaved on January 6, 2021, they’ve got you covered.
