The man responsible for providing much of the bogus and salacious material Christopher Steele used to compile his infamous discredited dossier, the dossier that the FBI used as a pretext to obtain a FISA warrant to surveil Donald Trump campaign advisor Cater Page, is a Russian named Igor Danchenko. That in and of itself is not news, but what Special Prosecutor John Durham just revealed in his ongoing investigation into the origins of the Trump/Russia collusion hoax is indeed big news. It turns out that Danchenko was a paid informant for the FBI.

According to Durham’s latest court filing in which Danchenko has been charged with five counts of lying to the FBI, it is revealed that “in March 2017, the FBI signed the defendant up as a paid confidential human source of the FBI.” The filing further notes that “the FBI terminated its source relationship with the defendant in October 2020” over which time “the defendant lied to FBI agents during several of these interviews.”

Recall that the former British spy Steele was the author of the bogus anti-Trump dossier and that he was hired by Hillary Clinton’s campaign through the firm Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on Trump. Danchenko, who had previously worked at the left-leaning Brookings Institution, went to work for Steele prior to the 2016 election.

Why the FBI hired Danchenko mere months after Trump was elected evidently had to do with seeking to vet the claims of the dossier. Prior to his being hired as a source, the FBI first brought Danchenko in for questioning regarding the information in Steele’s dossier that BuzzFeed News had just published. He downplayed the dossier’s claims, alleging that Steele had embellished much of it. Nevertheless, the FBI continued to seek FISA warrant renewals based upon the dossier to maintain surveillance against Page.

Some of the more lurid claims made in the dossier regarding Trump’s supposed sexual activity at the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow quickly fell apart when Danchenko admitted that he had “visited, but not stayed at, the hotel during the 2016 trip.” Durham is also seeking to use as evidence an email sent by Danchenko from his former employer Cenk Sidar from February 2016 in which he “advised Sidar, when necessary, to fabricate sources of information.”

The levels of this political conspiracy are astounding. But due to the Leftmedia commitment to protecting Democrats, one of the biggest political scandals in American history continues to be effectively ignored.
