The Patriot Post® · In Brief: Dems Whip Up Abortion Hysteria
Angry women could decide the November midterms. That’s why Democrats are doing their darnedest to make them angry. Paul Gottfried worries that such diversions exacerbate divisions.
A major Republican complaint these days is that the Democratic National Committee has begun to lie shamelessly about abortion to divert public attention from serious issues like crime, inflation, a tottering economy, an open Southern border, and the anti-white racist indoctrination prevalent in our public schools and military.
Usually, this involves false attacks on candidates around the nation for supposedly holding “extreme” views on abortion. Gottfried points to attacks on Republicans like House candidate Marc Molinaro and Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, among others.
Unfortunately, such a discussion is no longer possible in most places because American women, especially college-educated ones below the age of 50, are single-mindedly committed to unrestricted abortion rights. Indeed, that issue overshadows for this demographic what would seem to be graver matters, e.g., being raped or murdered by violent criminals who have been released from jail, rapidly rising food and energy prices, and allowing public school teachers to help transition minors sexually without telling their parents.
Abortion has galvanized much of the female vote since the Dobbs decision; and this doesn’t seem about to change.
In fact, he says, it’s getting worse. Gottfried concludes:
This Democratic diversionary move of whipping up hysteria over abortion has only added to the 33 point-gap between male and female voters. Even before Dobbs men favored Republicans by 18 points, while women favored the Democrats by 15 points. Social issues were already dominant in both cases.
Moreover, as the female vote continues to move in a very woke direction, many female voters have abandoned even the pretense of wishing to live in a free society. According to Psychology Today: “In a 2019 study, 59% of women said protecting free speech was less important than promoting an inclusive society, while 71% of men felt the opposite.” These figures, if true, are truly alarming because they indicate how precarious our constitutional freedoms have become. The problem lies not only with a deep state, the corporate media, and our straying educational system. Equally disturbing, a large chunk of the electorate has become downright loony, and I have no suggestions about how this can be reversed. I doubt that many in this radicalized female electorate even care that our vice president wants to “prioritize communities of color” in addressing the devastation of Hurricane Ian. All that counts for this female segment of the electorate is hammering Republicans for not being extreme enough on “women’s health issues.” Incidentally, most EU countries only permit abortion up to 12 weeks and would therefore be misogynists by American feminist standards.
