Texas Dem sheriff certifies MVI migrants: The Democrat sheriff from Bexar County, Texas, Javier Salazar, quickly set himself in opposition to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis following the flight of 48 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, and he has now sought to get those migrants U visas. These U visas are granted for people who are victims of crimes in order to assist law enforcement investigations. Salazar claims that the migrants were deceived by DeSantis: “Based upon the claims of migrants being transported from Bexar County under false pretenses, we are investigating this case as possible Unlawful Restraint. We have submitted documentation through the federal system to ensure the migrants’ availability as witnesses during the investigation.” Meanwhile, DeSantis has produced waivers signed by the migrants in question that clearly show where they were headed. Furthermore, DeSantis observed that since Massachusetts has declared itself a sanctuary state, it should be welcoming the migrants. Salazar is focused on an event that did not occur in his county, affecting individuals who never resided in his county. Would not the residents of Bexar County be better served by a sheriff who actually focused his energies on policing his own jurisdiction rather than engaging in a political fight with the governor of another state?
PA 2020 mail-in balloting mess remains unfixed: In the 2020 election, Pennsylvania became the focus of much contention over voting issues thanks to the mass expansion of mail-in balloting due to the COVID pandemic. One of the myriad of issues had to do with questions regarding undated mail-in ballots. According to state law, each voter must “fill out, date and sign” their mail-in ballot. The question is whether the handwritten date must be included for the ballot to be accepted. This past summer, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that 257 ballots from a 2021 special election that had been rejected due to the failure of voters to include the handwritten date breached the Civil Rights Act. Following the ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take the case, much to the chagrin of Justice Samuel Alito, who observed that the court “is very likely wrong.” He warned, “If left undisturbed, it could well affect the outcome of the fall elections, and it would be far better for us to address that interpretation before, rather than after, it has that effect.” So voters in the Keystone State may have to wait through a litany of litigation arising following the midterms due to the unresolved undated balloting question, and we may all have to wait to learn, for example, which party controls the U.S. Senate.
Democrats keep undermining our institutions: It has been repeated so often by Democrat politicians in recent years that it might as well be their motto: “Democracy is being threatened.” Indeed, the Democrats’ leading media wing, The Washington Post, ridiculous adopted the tagline “Democracy Dies in Darkness” in February 2017 on the heels of Donald Trump taking office. But the truth is that, more often than not, it is Democrats who are doing more to undermine America’s institutions than are any Republicans or conservatives. Indeed, just last week, Joe Biden — who has made a habit of circumventing Congress to impose his policy agenda (he just unilaterally rewrote ObamaCare) — once again attacked a fundamental American institution, the U.S. Supreme Court. “I view this off-year election as one of the most important elections that I’ve been engaged in because a lot can change because the institutions have changed,” railed Biden at a fundraiser for Delaware Democrat Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester. “The Supreme Court is more of an advocacy group these days than it is a — evenhanded about it.” Biden’s description of the Court is laughably false; it is Democrats, in their long-running effort to create a politicized, activist court, who render decisions to uphold their leftist agenda rather than maintain conformity to the Constitution.
