The Patriot Post® · Federal Dollars for Military Abortions
Travel for military service members to obtain an abortion will be covered by the Pentagon, says Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. It’s just the latest slide down the woke slope for a military already struggling with too much wokeness and too little readiness.
“Our Service members and their families are often required to travel or move to meet our staffing, operational, and training requirements,” Austin said in a memo Thursday. “Such moves should not limit their access to reproductive health care.” He promised in June that he’d look into making this happen, so the decision isn’t a surprise.
Apparently unaware of the gross irony, Austin added that the spending is needed to counter the harm inflicted by the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling, which he says hampers the military’s “ability to recruit, retain, and maintain the readiness of a highly qualified force.”
Does anyone, including Austin, actually believe that garbage?
Yes, the military is suffering from a recruitment crisis, but it certainly isn’t due to young women struggling to access abortion. Instead, it’s due to the general physical unfitness of the American population, the vaccination mandates that actually inject the government into healthcare decisions, the radical leftward lurch of Pentagon brass and Biden administration officials, and the general America-bashing attitude that makes fewer Americans willing to fight for their country.
The Pentagon’s answer: Here’s money to pay for your travel to get an abortion in another state, thereby ensuring fewer Americans are even alive to recruit later. That’s not going to fix anything. Quite the opposite.
Similar to half a billion dollars a year going to Planned Parenthood, this money is fungible. Thanks to the Hyde Amendment, federal dollars may not be used to pay for abortions unless pregnancy is the result of rape or incest or if it threatens the life of a mother. Yet an awful lot of taxpayer money is spent ensuring that abortions keep happening, regardless of the reason for pregnancy or termination of life. That’s all a distinction without a difference.
Joe “Good Catholic” Biden doesn’t want to stop with the military. He supports creating a federal fund to cover these expenses for even more people. “The answer is absolutely I do support that,” Biden said, “and I’ve publicly urged companies to do that. I’ve urged them publicly as president of the United States saying, ‘This is what you should be doing.’” He spent his entire career being a vocal proponent of the Hyde Amendment, yet he now flippantly declares his support for flouting it simply because he’s following his party’s decent into radical abortion zealotry.
In fact, he just promised that, if Democrats win in November, “the first bill I’ll send to Congress is to codify Roe v. Wade.”
His sidekick and 25th Amendment insurance, Kamala Harris, is busy claiming that the real threat in America today is the “predatory practices” of pro-life pregnancy centers. Tell that to the clinics attacked and vandalized by abortion proponents or the pro-life activists raided and arrested by Biden’s FBI. Or the undercover journalists she persecuted as California attorney general. And inquiring minds want to know how it’s “predatory” to have provided $270 million in free medical, education, and material support to millions of moms in one year alone.
“When nearly three-fourths of women who choose abortion cite financial reasons for that choice, why not help them eliminate their material concerns instead of eliminating their child?” asks Denise Harle. “Tell them they can be a good mother — and help show them the way — instead of telling them they can’t. That’s the priceless, life-saving work that pregnancy centers do free of charge, and hundreds of thousands of precious humans live among us because of it.”
Instead, Stacey Abrams offered a particularly ghoulish take. She insists that women can solve their struggles with inflation by killing their unborn children.
As for the military, leftists who hate this country and the Armed Forces that defend it can’t be trusted to fix anything. All they can do is destroy the military and then pretend like expanding the death cult of abortion will make everything better.
