“I had a gentleman come up to me just a few nights ago, and he said, ‘I found content in my school library describing how to have sex to my son.’”

So said Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon during her second and final debate with Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Dixon continued: “He said, ‘Just a few weeks ago, not only was I a Democrat, but I was running for office as a Democrat.’ He said because Democrats won’t stand up for our children and go back to the basics, ‘I’m leaving the Democratic Party.’”

To which smug, smarmy late-night talker Stephen Colbert said sarcastically, “That happened.” A disbelieving Colbert went on to question Dixon’s honesty, saying that the episode must have been “totally made up.” Take a look:

We suspect he wishes he could have a do-over. As the liberal Detroit Free Press reports: “A Dearborn resident whose existence was doubted by comedian Stephen Colbert during a monologue last week has a message for the CBS late night host: I am real and so is my switch to the Republican Party.”

That man, 41-year-old Khalil Othman, told the Free Press that he’s a real Michigander and that he did indeed attend the Dixon campaign rally she referred to during the debate. “To claim that I’m not here, I don’t exist, I’m not human, that’s absolute ignorance,” said Othman, a father of five and former Dearborn city council and State House candidate. “If this person did his due diligence and started researching or has his team do a little bit of research of who’s this person who attended Dixon’s rally, they will be able to find my name right away, easy on social media. Just Google it.”

When an otherwise anonymous American citizen publicly dresses down a smarmy leftist gasbag like Stephen Colbert, it’s cause for celebration. But what was that he said about “leaving the Democratic Party”? The Free Press continues:

Othman has been one of many people in Dearborn attending protests in recent weeks against several books in the libraries of Dearborn public schools. The school district has removed six books so far, several of them with LGBTQ themes.

“I am a proud Muslim American who expresses my values and concerns all the time,” Othman said … “Dearborn has been voting Democrat blue for the last decade or two decades. But not anymore. On behalf of myself and my family, I guarantee you for sure that my family and my friends will vote for Republicans.”

This “Dearborn” reference is significant because this is the city that’s adjacent to Detroit and serves as the civic and cultural hub of an Arab American community that now numbers more than 200,000. As such, it’s the largest concentration of Arab peoples outside the Middle East. And they’re concerned about wokeism in their children’s schools.

Sound familiar? Like maybe Loudoun County, Virginia, last year?

We sense a political realignment coming — perhaps not all at once, but it’s coming. Arab Americans are a diverse lot, but they tend to be people of faith, and they tend to be socially conservative. Kind of like Hispanics.

And this got us thinking: For years, the Democrats have crowed about how the Republican Party is just a bunch of old white dudes and about how it’ll slip into irrelevance when these old white dudes start dying off. Twenty years ago, in fact, they wrote a book about it, about the destiny of demography.

But funny things keep happening on the way to this “emerging Democratic majority.”
