Cross-Examination

  • Republicans take the House, McConnell reelected: The GOP “officially” won control of the House yesterday when the Associated Press declared a 218th seat for Republicans. An outfit called the Decision Desk had called a different race as number 218 the day before. Seven races still have not been called, but Republicans currently lead 218-210. Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce her plans today. Meanwhile in the Senate, Mitch McConnell weathered a leadership challenge from Florida Senator Rick Scott, winning the vote 37-10. “I’m not going anywhere,” McConnell said, even though we’ve argued he should. The trouble is that Scott was not an obvious replacement, and few others are.

  • Senate: The pandemic is over: Joe Biden declared that “the pandemic is over” back in September. Now, even 12 Senate Democrats agree, joining all 50 Republicans in the upper chamber to vote Tuesday to end the COVID national emergency declaration. Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was among them. Given that Biden used the pandemic to justify his student loan giveaway, this presents a real problem for him in defending that unconstitutional action in court, where he’s already lost multiple times. Will another court reinstate his redistribution plan now that the Senate — including members of his own party — view his pandemic justification as no longer relevant?

  • San Fran trans plan: Nancy Pelosi’s hometown has always been a bastion of leftist sexual deviancy, from the “free love” of the 1960s to the “transgender” movement of today. Continuing that, er, proud history, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced a new program: the Guaranteed Income for Trans People (GIFT). According to The Daily Wire, “The program is exclusive to transgender residents of the city, and led by The Transgender District, a neighborhood of the city for transgender people; it will give 55 transgender residents $1,200 a month for up to 18 months.” Other taxpayers will be fleeced to provide “free” money to people who have segregated themselves according to their own gender dysphoria. How sad. By the way, average monthly rent on a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco is nearly $3,000.
