Re: “Giving Thanks Amidst Challenges

Having lived in Africa for two years, we missed Thanksgiving as celebrated here in the U.S., but we did not go without observing the holiday. Turkeys were difficult to come by and the Peace Corp volunteers who raised some were overwhelmed with requests. Instead, we purchased a goat and had our helper prepare it and serve it at his home in his village inviting all to come and share their bounty. The first year was very popular, so we once again acquired a goat for the following year’s celebration. Much to the surprise of our helper, a regional chief showed up making our helper the most popular person in the area. Those two Thanksgivings will remain in our memory and hearts forever. —Colorado

Re: “Garland Hits Trump With Special Prosecutor

“…the ongoing investigation into whether any person or entity violated the law in connection with efforts to interfere with the lawful transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election…” That’s a good example of “begging the question.” The special counsel has been ordered to see if there were any laws broken during efforts to interfere with the lawful transfer of power, but presumes as fact there WERE efforts to interfere. Yes, there was a lot of reprehensible activity on January 6th, but all most of us have wanted was a legitimate, sincere inquiry into the MANY suspicious circumstances surrounding the vote. Our nation can endure a crappy president, but it cannot survive the intentional corruption of our process for selecting one. —Georgia

Re: “Election Common Sense

Jack Devine’s article on getting back to common sense voting is a breath of fresh air after reading articles by Republicans on how Republicans should basically learn to play the same crooked game on voting as Democrats. That will only erode trust in voting even further. There is no excuse that we cannot have an Election Day without bulk-mail ballots unless people want to cheat. Let’s not play that game. People deserve and should demand better. —California

Re: “Disney Scapegoats CEO

Perhaps Bob Chapek really did want to make Disney less woke, but if so, he failed, and it is that failure that has resulted in a 56% loss of value. The stock may have risen sharply on hopes that Bob Iger’s return could take the beloved company back in a more family-friendly direction, but if or when that proves not to be the case, the market backlash will be even sharper. Iger won’t be blamed for wokeness in “Strange World,” but stock-watchers will be waiting attentively to hear about the political direction of the next Disney project. —Georgia
