The traditional family has been under attack from numerous malicious players. From teachers unions usurping parental rights to Black Lives Matter aiming to disrupt the nuclear family, the respect for traditional family is no more.

As Fox News reports, drag queen “Miz Cracker” says, “Any opportunity that we have to kick down the traditional family values is welcomed.” He goes on to say, “So yeah, f**k family.” This comes after “family friendly” drag shows and heated debates over the morality of this type of entertainment have made national news this year.

The destruction of the traditional family is dangerous, and the victims are always the children involved. With divorce rates on the rise, fatherless homes plaguing our country, and an uptick in children’s poor mental health, our most defenseless have become vulnerable to harmful ideologies that continue to drive a wedge between the relationship they have left with their parents. When the relationship between child and parent is broken, the state will come in as the savior and will promise to take care of the child’s every need. This can already be seen through the public schools’ approach to care for the “whole child.”

To fight back the attacks on the traditional family, we must understand why the traditional family is important. It is true that not every child has the privilege of experiencing a traditional family, and not all parents are fit to be parents. But the science is overwhelmingly clear about the importance of a traditional family.

In an article from the nonprofit Them Before Us, psychiatrist Scott Haltzman is cited as saying: “Parenting styles correlate to biological differences between men and women. Women, compared to men, have higher levels of oxytocin — the hormone responsible for emotional bonding — and oxytocin receptors. Oxytocin serves to calm anxiety, reduce motor activity, and foster an increase in touch. In contrast, testosterone — present in men at levels tenfold higher than women — is correlated to an increase in motor activity in infant boys and may be responsible for higher levels of physical activities in men compared to women.”

Men and women are biologically wired to parent in different ways, which is why the traditional family is crucial to the upbringing of a child. This is also why the statements that drag queen “Miz Cracker” makes are cause for concern and should be taken seriously. Our children cannot continue to suffer the consequences of harmful ideologies that are supported by our current administration.

Thankfully, organizations such as Them Before Us exist and are an important piece to salvaging the traditional family. Its mission is to defend a child’s right to a mother and father, and its goals include educating the public on a child-centric perspective of marriage and family and representing the rights of children on policy matters.

Our children are the future of this country. They are worth defending, and they are the hill worth dying on.
