Re: “‘Decorum!’ They Shrieked”
After Pelosi tore up the 2020 State of the Union speech, I was done with waisting my time on partisan politics from a bunch of people who have never served anyone, unless there’s something in it for themselves. Everything I’ve read and heard about the most recent SOTU supports my decision. Listening to the rebuttal was like a fresh spring rain. Finally, someone is speaking truth about what we’re experiencing: pure CRAZY. None of what’s offered or commanded is good or wholesome, just insulting and offensive. The culture wants our children; it hates law and order, truth, and anything to do with God. All the things that made the U.S. great have become worthless to the culture. —Oregon
Re: “Falling Behind in Biden’s Economy”
The State of the Union report was intended as a means for the executive branch to give the legislative branch a summary overview of the state of the nation from the “big picture” point of view. It wasn’t intended as something for the public. This could actually be useful. It has devolved into a public performance with no real purpose other than an opportunity for the party holding the White House to make a not-connected-to-reality political speech. I think it would be helpful if Congress were to pass a specific law taking this report out of the public purview. If there were no opportunity to influence the populace, maybe — just maybe — Congress could be exposed to some useful facts. —Florida
Re: “In Brief: Five Reasons EVs Are a Boondoggle”
Nothing is said about the heavy construction equipment in use worldwide. No construction company wants to park a bulldozer or crane for an hour or more every few hours to recharge batteries. Most of that type of equipment is used far from reliable electric supplies, so diesel generators will be needed to charge those things on site. That industry will never be able to survive a shift like that. What about shipping? Will we start building big ships with sails again? This isn’t about the environment. It’s about stuffing the pockets of the richest of the rich who have invested heavily in the plot to eliminate Elon Musk from his empire. —West Virginia
Re: “Turns Out Biden Threatened Social Security”
How is it that Social Security is unsustainable and will run out of money, but the welfare money, especially that given to illegals and most likely not even taxed, is never compared in the same light? That Social Security money belongs to those who paid into it, whereas the welfare money is going to many who should not be getting it. This smacks of Democrats’ gun laws — punishing the good guys. Congress should shift some of the welfare money over to Social Security to keep it solvent. —Illinois
Re: “Race and Violence: A Politically Inconvenient Truth”
We need a study of violent crime versus fatherlessness. A negligent father endangers a child just as much as a negligent mother. One of the important roles of a father is teaching his children to control selfish impulses in a way that a mother cannot do as effectively. It’s not hard to see where the lack of a father figure leads. —Minnesota
