O'Keefe leaves Project Veritas: On Monday, James O'Keefe, founder of the undercover investigative journalism organization Project Veritas, resigned from the company he started just over a decade ago. Two weeks ago, allegations of O'Keefe’s mismanagement resulted in the board of directors suspending him as they initiated an investigation into the complaints raised by several employees. According to a statement released by the board of directors, there were two primary concerns — one regarding Project Veritas’s “long-term sustainability based on staff retention and morale,” and the other being “the company’s financial health.” The board further noted that a preliminary review uncovered O'Keefe having “spent an excessive amount of donor funds in the last three years on personal luxuries.” In response, O'Keefe released a 45-minute video in which he spoke to staffers, essentially rejecting the allegations. “None of this makes any sense,” he said, “and why is this happening right now? Those are the questions I have. I don’t have answers.” He then promised that his departure would not end his commitment to the mission. In fact, he hinted at starting a new company doing the same undercover journalism and invited staffers to join him. With Project Veritas being a nonprofit, allegations of misuse of funds could have significant legal consequences for the company, which appears to be the board’s primary concern, as they reiterated that O'Keefe was not ousted by the board.
Sanders’s exploitative capitalism: Socialist Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has been making the rounds touting his latest anti-capitalism book titled It’s OK to be Angry About Capitalism. Over the weekend, Sanders appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” where he was actually challenged on his hypocrisy. “Tickets for your tour apparently are selling for $95 on Ticketmaster, which is accused of anti-competitive behavior,” his interviewer said. “You know that. Some of your Democrats are criticizing them. Aren’t you benefiting yourself from this system that you’re trying to dismantle?” Sanders, the avowed socialist who has famously gotten rich thanks to capitalism, blustered that the “decisions are made totally by the publisher and bookseller,” adding: “If you want to come, you’re going to have to pay 40 bucks. I will throw in a book for free … but I don’t make a nickel out of these things at all.” Ah, the old socialist grifter is “angry” about capitalism. Meanwhile, his net worth has climbed to $3 million.
Lemon will return to CNN after reeducation camp: It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. CNN talkinghead Don Lemon, who was suspended last week following his on-air comments claiming that women over 40 years of age are “past their prime,” will be returning to the program tomorrow. Lemon got himself in hot water by attempting an ill-conceived dig against Nikki Haley. The Republican presidential candidate called for any politician over the age of 75 seeking office to undergo a mandatory mental competency test. Lemon responded with a bizarre soliloquy about women’s age and Google results, comments that raised the ire of women on both sides of the political divide. CNN CEO Chris Licht pulled Lemon and sent him to be reeducated. In announcing Lemon’s return, Licht explained: “[Lemon] has agreed to participate in formal training, as well as continuing to listen and learn. We take this situation very seriously.” The thought police always do.
