I realize this may ruffle some feathers, but I feel the need to share it. I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 because Hillary Clinton was never going to get my vote. Honestly, for many of us, Trump seemed the lesser of two evils. Trump’s character issues, or lack thereof, were of great concern to me. Then Trump surprised many of us by simply keeping his campaign promises. Novel idea, I know.

Millions wonder what our country would look like today if Trump had won a second term. What might have been accomplished had he been reelected? What if he didn’t have to battle the far Left (media, academia, Hollywood, Big Tech, the entire Democrat Party, and “Never Trump” Republicans) every day of his first term? But wishes won’t change our current reality.

Since 2020, Trump has behaved like a child who did not get the toy he wanted. He’s still stuck on 2020 instead of focusing on the next election. He holds onto resentment towards anyone deemed not sufficiently loyal. He definitely holds grudges. Trump cost us the Senate when he discouraged Georgia Republicans from voting in the runoff. Trump said their votes would not count, so nearly 300,000 Republicans who voted in the general election stayed home for the runoff. That gave the Democrats the Senate, with Kamala Harris being the tiebreaking vote.

In the 2022 midterms, Trump supported candidates of his choosing to run against solid candidates who were not sufficiently loyal to him. Trump supported David Purdue for Georgia governor in 2022 against Brian Kemp, and Purdue lost. Trump supported a number of weak candidates like Hershel Walker, who also lost. His temper tantrums to perceived disloyalty cost us the Senate, AGAIN. The expected red wave became a red ripple, leaving the Democrats in charge of the Senate. Republicans barely won the House.

I have some thoughts about Trump serving another term. Will he be a “lame duck” president right off the bat, as presidents serving their second term are perceived? Will he be any smarter with those he chooses to serve in his administration? Has he learned anything about leaving people in positions of power who are actually working against him? FBI Director James Comey and Dr. Anthony Fauci come to mind. Here is my greatest concern: his complete lack of humility.

Trump made everything about himself, including COVID. Our own Mark Alexander urged Trump repeatedly not to make himself the face of COVID, or else the Democrats would use it against him in the election, which they did. Everything good that happened he took credit for. Everything wrong was somebody else’s fault. Many of us who are followers of Christ were praying fervently for Trump to win.

My prayers were not answered and Trump lost. The Lord seemed to say, “I will not share my glory with another!” Trump wants a coronation. We need convincing that Trump will do what’s best for America, not what satisfies his tremendous ego. Trump seems unconcerned about driving away independent voters that both sides will need.
