The Patriot Post® · Biden Ready to Cave to Iran, Just Like Obama
Iran is the biggest rabble-rouser in the Middle East. It’s controlled by an oppressive theocracy that savagely puts down any resistance by its people. Iran is not only the biggest funder of terrorism worldwide, but it would love to undermine the United States and also eradicate Israel — the U.S.‘s biggest ally in the region.
Currently, Iran and Russia are working together in the war against Ukraine (and the U.S. by proxy) and trying to get the U.S. out of Syria.
Former President Barack Obama made a troublesome deal with this antagonistic nation in 2015 known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It was a spectacular failure then, and the Trump administration wisely pulled out of the deal. The mullahs have proved that they are willing to lie about their activities regarding their nuclear program. So why in the world would the Biden administration even consider making a deal with this regime?
Team Biden has been in covert talks with the Iranians trying to “put a cap” on their nuclear program. The nuclear facility in Tehran reportedly is refining 60% pure uranium and is aiming for 90%, the quality of which is used in nuclear weapons. Israel Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has been warning of this development. In May, Gallant said: “It has already accumulated enough enriched uranium at the 20% and 60% levels for five nuclear bombs. If Iran enriches to the 90% weaponized level, it would be a great error and the price would be heavy, and there would be consequences which could inflame the Middle East.”
Yet our executive branch is still trying to revive Obama’s Iran deal in the vain hopes of stopping the mullahs’ development of nuclear weapons. The gist of the deal is that the U.S. will unfreeze Iranian assets (which will promptly be used to fund more terrorism worldwide), stop seizing Iranian tankers, and not tighten economic sanctions further in exchange for the mullahs stopping their refining efforts at 60% (with their fingers crossed, of course) and releasing American prisoners.
To make matters worse, the Biden administration has been doing all this behind Congress’s back. House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) penned a letter to the president last Thursday pointing out that his “proximity talks” were illegal and violated the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. McCaul further observed that the informal deal that seems to be underway was a “reckless less-for-less arrangement” and also points out that there are more effective means to stop Iran’s nuclear development — since, you know, Iran is an adversary, not an ally. Those effective means would include diplomatic and military intimidation from the U.S.
Biden’s weak-sauce approach to foreign policy is utterly destructive to U.S. national security and also to the security of our allies. If dismantling U.S. hegemony is the goal, then this administration is doing a bang-up job.
