The worst is yet to come. Remember this when you think about the coming confluence of politics and artificial intelligence.

We’ve already seen its crude beginnings: First, the Republican National Committee produced a 30-second spot of a dystopian future ushered in by the reelection of our decrepit Democrat president in 2024.

But then, the real fun started for the lefties at ChatAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, the powerful San Francisco-based Generative Pre-trained Transformer that’s now taking the nation by storm.

First, Donald Trump Jr. had some fun at Ron DeSantis’s expense, morphing the Florida governor’s head and voice onto the body of the Michael Scott character from “The Office” to modify a skit in which DeSantis-as-Scott admits to having made “one tiny mistake” — namely, wearing women’s clothes. So far, Don Jr.‘s Twitter spot has gotten three million views.

Then, Team DeSantis got into the act with a campaign commercial ridiculing Donald Trump for not having fired Anthony Fauci. Fair enough, given that the audio snippets of the spot are authentic. But some of the still images are AI-generated, and they show Trump not only embracing Fauci but apparently even kissing the lying little rat on the forehead. To date, the commercial has gotten more than 10 million views.

What fun for the Left. Our Brian Mark Weber warned of AI’s wokeness back in January, and things have accelerated since then. How are the masses to know what’s real and what’s fake, especially when AI can blend the two so quickly and seamlessly? We have this vision of a hapless AI poop-scooper walking well behind the ChatGPT pachyderm, and it’s not a pretty sight. In the political campaign of the future, artificially intelligent lies will have circled the globe many times before the truth has even hiked up its Carhartts.

In any case, they’re no doubt yukking it up back there in the Mission District, back there at ChatAI HQ in San Fransicko, watching the Republicans use their product to beat each other up. But, again, this is only the beginning. As Lauren Camera writes at U.S. News:

Artificial intelligence software is already roiling the music, art and journalism industries with the ability to produce pages of written copy when given a prompt as well as to create “deepfake” images, videos and sounds that digitally manipulate existing content to portray events or scenes that never occurred. But with the 2024 presidential election fast approaching and zero federal regulations in place to combat false AI-generated political stunts, consumer advocacy groups and campaigns alike are holding their breath as they wait for the next to surface.

Ah, the 2024 presidential election. It should be a shoe-in for the Republicans, given how wildly unpopular the incumbent is — but not with the Democrats’ superior ballot-harvesting ground game, and not with the creative possibilities of AI at their disposal. We suspect Democrat consultant Isaac Goldberg isn’t the only Democrat who’s rubbing his hands together with glee.

“2024 is almost certainly going to open up the world’s eye to what’s possible when you combine high stakes hyper-competitive elections with the ability to use AI for creative production,” says Goldberg. “I think whatever we thought of as fake news or whatever we thought our definition of fake news or fake content was a couple of years ago will be laughable when we look back at the 2024 elections.”

And herein lies the problem for conservatives: AI is programmed by humans, and humans have biases. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from Big Tech’s ever-increasing encroachment on our lives, it’s that all these entities are leftist at their core. They can’t stand Donald Trump, and they can’t stand Republicans generally. So, naturally, they’re putting their elbow on the AI scale.

What can we expect from AI? It’s simple: Disinformation in, disinformation out. Heck, if AI won’t even tell us what a woman is, how can we trust it to tell us, objectively, where the candidates stand on the issues?

“The Biden administration’s efforts [to] make AI woke [are] absolutely terrifying,” said American Accountability Foundation President Tom Jones to the New York Post. “The prospect of AI being rigged by the Left is truly Orwellian.”

Team Biden has even proposed a blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights. And if all this weren’t bad enough, just remember: Kamala Harris is your AI Czar. She’s artificial alright, but intelligent?

One of the key arguments being put forth by the Left is that AI systems need to be more inclusive and less prone to “harmful bias” or “algorithmic discrimination.”

“You should not face discrimination by algorithms and systems should be used and designed in an equitable way,” says the Biden Blueprint. “Algorithmic discrimination occurs when automated systems contribute to unjustified different treatment or impacts disfavoring people based on their race, color, ethnicity, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions, gender identity, intersex status, and sexual orientation),” and on it goes.

But let’s face it: Algorithmic discrimination is precisely what AI uses when it helpfully produces an alternative outcome to the 2016 election — one in which Hillary Clinton wins — but it won’t do the same for Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

Algorithmic discrimination is what AI uses to tell you, oh: “The concept of gender is complex and can be difficult to define, as it can refer to a person’s biological sex, their gender identity, or their gender expression. … Because of this complexity, it’s difficult to say exactly how many genders there are.”

Artificial intelligence holds promise in plenty of areas of our lives, but it’s going to make an absolute mess of politics. You heard it here first.
