When one is elected a representative of the people, the expectation is that you are going to fight for the people who voted you there in the first place. But our swamp system in Washington, DC, is far from this ideal of American representative democracy.

When it comes to the House members commonly referred to as “The Squad” (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman), this lack of regard for the American public they actually represent comes in many forms.

Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Tlaib (D-MI) in particular have been the loudest voices behind President Joe Biden’s illegal and various attempts to cancel student loan debt. Like King John in the Robin Hood story, these ladies are totally okay with robbing from the common man to pay for student loans, particularly since they would benefit from such a seizure of funds.

Ocasio-Cortez herself owes between $15,000 and $50,000 in student loan debt, according to her House financial disclosure report. As for Tlaib, her law degree has accrued her over $100,000 in debt.

Both congresswomen have made comments championing their selfish student debt cancellation agenda to President Biden.

Ocasio-Cortez perfectly illustrated this in a comment on Instagram. She addresses her loyal followers, “It was YOUR pushing, YOUR pressure, YOUR organizing that got them to this point.”

Tlaib, who has more to pay off, kept calling for Biden to up the debt forgiveness to $50,000, writing: “I will continue to push for education debt cancellation of $50K or more, and I know many people out on the streets will do the same. This is not the end, this is just the beginning when it comes to bringing opportunity and equity to all.” Translation: $50K less debt would be nice for me, a House member who makes over $174,000 annually and has a net worth of over a million dollars.

Tlaib has a knack for accruing money, sometimes unethically, and has the finances to pay off her own debt. She does not shy away from taking money from her constituents. Why shouldn’t demanding they pay for her law degree also apply?

Maybe AOC should sell her “tax the rich” dress. That tacky number would probably cover a bunch of her debt.

The Supreme Court has struck down the first unconstitutional attempt by the president to cancel student loans. But plans are already underway to try again, probably spurred on by The Squad’s enthusiastic support.

Under the guise of altruism and “championing the working class,” Ocasio-Cortez and Tlaib would tax the working class to pay for the privileged college kids. It’s all a big con.
