Republican Minnesota Congresswoman, Tea Party favorite and GOP primary candidate Michele Bachmann has proved once again how fair and objective the mainstream news media is as she becomes the latest liberal punching bag for what used to pass for journalism in this country. The current issue of that parrot cage liner…I mean news magazine, Newsweek, has Mrs. Bachmann as its cover story, whom they have labeled, “The Queen of Rage,” accompanied by an unflattering photo of the Minnesota Republican. Not since the campaign glory days of 2008 has the media descended upon a conservative Republican woman with such savagery and venom.

From the sublimely ridiculous stories of migraines to trying to destroy her reputation as a foster parent the media has attacked Mrs. Bachmann as just a pretty face being manipulated by those brown shirted Tea Party fascists. The higher Mrs. Bachmann rises in the polls the meaner, nastier and more biased the liberal elitist media attacks become.

Ah, but never fear. The cavalry is on the way.

Terry O'Neill, the president of the National Organization for Women (NOW) has come galloping to the defense of Mrs. Bachmann.

Yes, that’s right, NOW has come out swinging.

Ms. O'Neill dressed in her finest red flannel lumberjack shirt, ankle length denim skirt and comfortable Birkenstocks has jumped into the fray by denouncing Newsweek’s cover story as “sexist.” Making a pointed reference to NOW’s founder and former Playboy bunny Gloria Steinem’s golden rule on determining sexism – would they do this to a man.

Man, indeed.

“Who has ever called a man ‘The King of Rage?’ Basically what Newsweek magazine – and this is important, what Newsweek magazine, not a blog, Newsweek magazine – what they are saying of a woman who is a serious contender for president of the United States of America…They are basically casting her as a nut job,” O'Neill said to FoxNews.com on Tuesday.

“The ‘Queen of Rage’ is something you apply to wrestlers or somebody who is crazy. They didn’t even do this to Howard Dean when he had his famous scream,” she said. “Though Mr. Dean did scream like a girl.”

Newsweek and its editor Tina Brown have defended the cover photo, which is an extreme close-up of Mrs. Bachmann looking over the photographer’s point of view. The magazine also denied rumors that there is a holographic pair of devil horns coming out of Mrs. Bachmann’s head that can only be seen under a black light. A Newsweek spokesperson has denied any attempt to make Mrs. Bachmann appear Satanic claiming, “Since she is a member of the Tea Party everyone already knows she worships Satan.”

But I digress.

Ms. O'Neill went on to say that the main reason NOW, which is opposed to Mrs. Bachmann on every issue including the virtues of pageboy haircuts, the need to outlaw the manufacture and selling of girdles and why Mrs. Bachmann disempowered herself by taking the name of her male oppressor…I mean husband, is that the main reason NOW is standing up for Bachmann against these kind of misogynistic attacks is that their organization supports women running for elected office. Especially attractive women with piercing blue eyes who might let me take them out to Starbucks if I’m nice to them and publicly defend them.

“Of course my job is to defeat Michele Bachmann and I intend to do so. But good women will not run for office if Newsweek magazine can do this to such a prominent politician and get away with it,” O'Neill said. “If someone as attractive as Representative Bachmann decides to leave public office we will be stuck with the likes of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Shelia Jackson Lee and Barney Frank.”

“Of course he looks nice in a dress and he wears make up well, but when you come right down to it Barney isn’t a pretty as that Tea Party girl.”
