The Patriot Post® · Stephen Hawking v. God
Few, if any scientists would quibble with Dr. Stephen Hawking the noted theoretical Physicist and Cosmologist. He has suffered some level of progressive paralysis since age 21 and is now totally paralyzed as a result of a motor neuron disease similar to ALS. That he is exceptionally brilliant is undeniable which makes it difficult to challenge his thesis that there is no God and no heaven.
However, the very world in which we live and the universe of which we are a small part, provides me a contradictory premise and an apology for a deity- conceived, deity-arranged and deity-governed universe.
Simply stated, some 13.7 billion years ago, a singular entity desired this, our universe to come into existence and so it was. Scientists from the various disciplines have been able to work backwards in time and space to that single moment they aptly called the ‘big-bang’ and further gave it the title, “Singularity.”
Dr. Hawking seem to use the term, singularity as purely cosmological rather than being immediately aware that God is the one true singularity. He is Omnipotent enough to control the forces necessary to create our infinite, ever expanding, fantastically beautiful universe, its billions of solar systems complete with waste disposal systems the scientists have labeled, “Black Holes.”
God, The Singularity" is also Omniscient, thus able to conceive, foresee and solve the multitude of problems attendant to such an undertaking.
God is Immutable, ever constant and unchanging, thus dependable and reliable.
Billions of humans worldwide are in awe of the love, compassion and protection of God. The God of whom I speak is not necessarily the God revered by all believers in a supreme deity. Christians and Jews worship this singular loving God. This Monotheism is also characteristic of the Baha'i Faith, Druzism, Islam, Samaritanism, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism.
Many religions have more than one deity; the qualities and/or characteristics of these many deities are relatively unknown to non-practitioners. Hinduism has a plethora of deities. One example is the god Prajapati who is in some ways similar to my God. Prajapati is the god of Procreation and is the protector of life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prajapati
The followers of Shinto have multiple deities known as Kami, while Buddhism, Though recognized as a religion has no known deity. On the other hand, the followers of Islam claim for Allah the title creator. Claim as they will, there is little or no doubt that Muhammad, with a solid acquaintance of the practices of the Israelites (Modern Judaism) and the Early Christians purloined unto Islam many of the most laudable qualities of Yahweh (God).
True, all religions are a belief system. Therefore Dr. Hawking, in possession of prima fascia evidence or at least a persuasive manifestation of the handiwork of a higher intelligence, could, without criticism acknowledge the likelihood of God and a promised life (Heaven) hereafter. His failure to do so, in my lesser mind, diminishes the value of his monumental contributions to humankind.
