“Power always thinks it has great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak, and that it is doing God’s service when it is violating all His laws.” –John Adams
Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” –US Constitution, Article II, Section 1
“I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” –Armed Forces of the United States enlistment oath
At fifty six years old I’m amazed that I can still be amazed at things: I’m amazed at how much more fun I am as a grandpa; I’m amazed that sunrises and sunsets still inspire me; I’m amazed that songwriters still write beautiful ballads.
I was born at the beginning of the cold war, lived through nuclear proliferation; struggled with the merits of the Viet Nam war, harbored fears of America’s decline, was awed by Reagan’s dismantling of the Soviet Union by reigniting the engine of American prosperity, perplexed by the ensuing breakdown of morals, worried for my grandkids future, frustrated at the devastating corruption of crony “capitalism,” and appalled at the arrogant usurping of the constitution. So what I’m really amazed at is how long it’s taken me to grasp how truly incompatible socialism/communism is with freedom.
Perhaps I owe the Occupiers a bit of thanks for bringing another piece of the puzzle together for me. They fancy themselves protesters in the spirit of the founding fathers, but they in no way understand the principles that made our republic the beacon of light to the world. In fact, it has been exposed that the guiding philosophy underlying this “movement” is communism and by using chaos and anarchy to tear down the existing order they hope to usher in greater government control with the illusion of “fairness” in distributing wealth around.
Demanding that government confiscate wealth and property is as incompatible with limited, constitutional government as copper is with galvanized steel – it will corrode! The right to property and rule of law are the two essentials to keeping a just and orderly society.
Let us, We The People, commit to protecting and defending from all enemies, especially the enemy within, these basic tenets of freedom:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident…all men are..
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.
That to secure these rights,
governments are instituted among men.”“Our Declaration of Independence acknowledges a Creator as the source of the unalienable rights that governments are formed to secure. This acknowledgement was the very foundation of the Constitution of the United States of America.
What are those unalienable rights with which we are endowed? They may be described in many ways, but English jurist Sir William Blackstone wrote in 1766, "these may be reduced to three principal articles:
- the right of personal security (life);
- the right of personal liberty; and,
- the right of private property..”
America’s written Constitution was to protect and secure God-given individual rights to life, liberty, and property. If we ever allow this foundation to be eroded and lose faith that these rights are a gift directly from God to each individual, then we lose the basis of the greatness of the miracle of America.“ (from The National Center for Constitutional Studies website)
If we can’t trust our President and elected officials to protect us from the enemy within, let us pray our military stands strong; but above all We The People must take responsibility to secure our constitutional form of government! Godless, collectivist communism surely will not!
