This capitulation to the Democrats became entirely predictable and totally avoidable. In addition, making things worse, the conservatives and neo-conservatives and the Tea Party are perceived, and rightly so, as perfecting the Chinese fire drill: demands changing daily, arguments changing daily with the only people demonstrating any convictions being attacked by their “own” party as well as coordinated attacks by the opposition.

Without coordination, communication and focus the conservatives will never emerge as a formidable force to shape and execute policy.

The worst part of this debacle is that the debt ceiling extension has no specific cap, only a time limit. The Congress has abdicated its control over the purse in a spineless surrender to the Democrats and the POTUS. Apparently the goal of getting reelected is much stronger for those voting in favor of this surrender than standing on simple but essential values: stopping the out of control spending, stopping the mortgaging of our children and grand children’s future, reigning in those in government who would rule through uncontrolled handouts, entitlements, and tax and spend policies, and passing laws that were ill conceived, unread prior to passage with fanciful, if not outright deceptive funding provisions, demonizing the opposition with emotionally charged lies and demagoguery.

Obamacare is a time bomb that will explode in the face of all those who supported it and should prove to be an albatross around their necks. However we should not underestimate the Republican’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory going forward. They have proved in the past and most recently that their ability to act like uncoordinated morons goes unsurpassed in modern politics.

Due to their inept performance, lack of discipline, coordination, and a major leadership deficit, the Republicans have sustained a major trashing. However, there may be a bit of light in this black cloud: many truly conservative voters are paying attention to the phony conservatives who populate the Republican party and I’d expect some serious primary challenges in the next two cycles. When conservatives actually have conservative leaders, speak with one voice and their message is competently articulated, they have a natural advantage, except with the gimmie, gimmie crowd. The smart, energetic producers of this nation, and that includes most of the legal immigrants, are in tune with true conservative values.
