ObamaCare’s Unforeseen Consequences

There is much consternation about the negative effects of the partial government shutdown with much emphasis on “We must do something so that something like this never happens again.” Despite the best efforts of mice and men, Unforeseen Consequences are an unfortunate result of the human condition, imperfection.

Sometimes doing nothing is the best option and creates GOOD unforeseen consequences. The partial government shutdown actually forced government to function on a “Pay As You Go: basis,” effectively the balanced budget that internet chain letter aficionados happily thrive on, forwarding Warren Buffett and other imaginary visionaries who could balance the budget in five minutes, except it cannot happen since it needs Congress to pass laws against itself…IMPOSSIBLE.

Government partial shutdown constituted de facto balanced budget without all the impossible Congressional and Presidential fuss. Expenditures limited to monthly government revenue IS equivalent to balanced budget. Next time the issue comes up again in a few months may be time for the Boehner House to close shop and go back to their real house, not the DC House, and let Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama hung out to dry.

As to ObamaCare, the fact is that America as a whole has done something so that something like this never happens again, but whatever happens is always worse than what occurred before. Regulations on a grand inconceivable scale are what was done, and therein are the seeds for unforeseen Unforeseen Consequences.

Consider ObamaCare, now officially the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its some 20,000 undecipherable pages of law and regulations that were meant to lower cost of health insurance, increase jobs, and provide health insurance for some 30 million without it, no doubt many of them illegal immigrants.

Unforeseen consequences are quite opposite the intent, as cost of health insurance will rise sharply, employers are not creating new jobs due to uncertainty of penalties for providing health care or not, and the 30 Million uninsured will no doubt remain uninsured unless government picks up their tab entirely.

Barack Obama rode to the presidency with a tremendous boost from technology that Democrats played like a Carnegie Hall fiddle. Buoyed by that success, computer gurus leaped into the task of computerizing the entry point into ObamaCare. But the contract was given to a Canadian company whose expertise proved to be quite foreign to the ways of Americans who are more inclined to instant answers without all the hassle.

Young Americans in particular possess a twitter mentality that does not tolerate delays, holds, lockouts, and dead-ends after hours and even days trying to sign up for health insurance they do not want and cannot afford. The compelling reason to get ObamaCare is to cover pre-existing conditions.

Without young healthy insured necessary for balanced funding, “Affordable” ObamaCare is unaffordable, dead in the water. At this point, the best thing opponents can do to fight ObamaCare is “NOTHING.” The political rule of thumb is when an opponent is self-destructing, “Get out of the way.”

ObamaCrats won the government shutdown impasse, but the victory is proving to be a hollow one, as now that Dems got what they wanted, the cure proves to be worse than the disease. The saying is, “Be careful what you wish for; you might get it.”

The best course of action for President Obama is to do what he does best, and break the Constitution that assigns legislation to Congress, arbitrarily change the law once again, and grant a one-year postponement of the mandate to individuals as Obama has already granted to big business and political friends. Being illegal before makes it easier to be illegal again.

Internet signups are as easy as possible as the disclaimer generally states that one can unsubscribe at any time for any reason. If a product or service is for sale, there is usually an accompanying guarantee that the product of service can be can be cancelled at any time and receive a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping and handling of course.

Give the devil his due and stipulate that once the signup bugs are worked out, however long that takes, how will the administration handle the assignment and payment of medical services and will that be a greater boondoggle than the signup system?

Operation of ObamaCare requires such a grandiose system that the words of first-term Obama spoke as to the problems he inherited from the infamous President Bush, Obama come to mind, “It may take more than one term and more than one President to undo the damage done by JR.” Individual preventive care may be the best defense: “Don’t get sick.”

There is a solution to replace ObamaCare touted for almost four years summarized as follows:

Single-payer plan—Universal Medicare—to replace ObamaCare–summary of 3-page plan

  1. Institute a 3% National Sales Tax (NST) with NO exceptions for resale, charity, non-profits, religious, education, or government. The many cannot be continually supported by the diminishing few. A 3% NST may raise up to $7 Trillion annually, double the current budget, reduce national debt, spread tax burden to all residents, legal or not. Allocation: the 1st 1% toward Budget, the 2nd 1% toward debt reduction, the 3rd 1% for Universal Medicare for all legal residents.

  2. Dedicate first 1% NST to Universal Medicare to automatically eliminate most State Medicaid benefit requirements, costs, and overhead. State Medicaid mandated costs are virtually eliminated, reducing State budget shortfalls and tax requirements.

  3. According to a 7/6/10 analysis by attorney Lanny Davis published in The Hill, there were $755 Trillion in total transactions in the U.S. in 2008; $443 Trillion if exempting stock transactions. Accordingly NST on stock market transactions should be set at ½ of 1%, beating the International movement toward the inevitability of this type of tax. This ½% stock market transaction tax will inhibit the negative and controversial effects of High Frequency Trading (HFT) that causes artificial volatility.

Meanwhile, “JOBS” is Job One. Put ObamaCare in limbo while an easier all-inclusive plan is put into effect with the necessary superstructure and regulations already existing. Cancel the near 20,000 pages of job-killing regulations. Oil is in the $97 range, down from $110, due in part to increased US production that was put into place by a previous President, not by his highness who takes credit for the good, but refuses to accept blame for any negative.

The time to strike is when the iron is hot. Oil imports are down, meaning OPEC terrorist nations have that much less cash with which to attack the US anywhere at home or abroad. The best way to create jobs and reduce need for Middle East oil is to finally stop blocking the EPA approved Keystone XL Pipeline that can cumulatively add up to Two Million good-paying, tax-paying, welfare-reducing jobs, all without infusing taxpayer money…FREE.

Refusal by President Obama to do common sense options that help America constitutes grievous offenses against working America.
