Andy Andrews in his book “How do you kill 11 million People?” postulates a serious question; Does truth matter? While his book looks into the murder of 11 million people by the Nazi regime, the questions it raises concerning the lies governments perpetrate to control their people and promote their schemes are applicable to any and all governments.

On September 9, 2009 President Obama in a speech concerning health care reform said; “There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two-year period, one in every three Americans goes without healthcare coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage. In other words, it can happen to anyone.” This rhetoric was the basis of the partisan takeover of healthcare and health insurance industries by the then Democrat controlled Congress and White House through passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act (ObamaCare).

Were the assertions of the demagogues in the health care debate true, that 30 million Americans were unable to get adequate health insurance and were clamoring for the government to fix the problem then upon roll out, ObamaCare should have been inundated with 30 million applicants seeking insurance. Where are they?

According to CNBC on December 11, 2013 well over three years after ObamaCare was signed into law, “Separately, 803,077 people have been deemed eligible for the government-run Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Plan programs through the Obamacare marketplaces…. Together, nearly 1.2 million people have enrolled in private plans or been deemed eligible for government-run insurance programs through the Obamacare marketplaces….Another 1.9 million people had applied for and received a determination of eligibility for Obamacare plans by the end of November, but had not yet selected a plan, officials said.”

According to my calculations about 60% of those that actually signed up for health insurance are eligible for government run insurance programs at taxpayer expense. So, about 400 thousand people have signed up for private insurance on the exchanges with another 1.9 million (probably with sticker shock) that have eligibility but have not actually signed up. 400 thousand is a far cry from 30 million.

Even counting all 1.2 million that have signed up for some sort of private insurance through the exchanges and the 1.9 million eligible that have not signed up, the head count still falls 26.9 million short of the uninsured President Obama and his Democrat minions were so concerned about in 2009. Did the 30 million uninsured ever exist or were they just another rhetorical example of government mendacity to perpetrate a scheme?

The truth matters, for as Andy Andrews writes, “If it is correct that "you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” then is it possible that if you don’t know the truth, its absence can place you in bondage?“
