The Patriot Post® · Liberal Hypocrisy Exposed Over Gov. Christie Bridge-Gate

Republican Governor Chris Christie is under intense fire this week after revelations that members of his staff, apparently in retaliation against Fort Lee (NJ) Mayor Mark Sokolich for his failure to endorse Christie’s re-election, shut down lanes of the George Washington Bridge in order to cause a massive traffic jam, and massive headaches for the mayor.

First of all, let me just say that, if Christie had any prior knowledge of, or gave direction/approval for, the lane shutdowns, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent that the law allows. Those of his staff who participated in this blatant abuse of power should also be prosecuted regardless, knowing full well that this was not only illegal but potentially unsafe.

Having said that, I must also shake my head at the stunning hypocrisy of the liberal left and their media compadres and lapdogs, who now shake their fists in outrage at this abuse and call for firings and prosecutions, even as they pretend to be oblivious of, or even worse, actually defend, greater and more numerous abuses of power by Obama and his corrupt administration.

Or have we so quickly forgotten what Obama did during the recent government shutdown, with the stated purpose of making the shutdown as painful and miserable as possible for the American people in order to spark outrage against Republicans, who had the audacity to not roll over and play dead on Obama’s command, and give him unlimited deficit spending and ObamaCare exemptions as he demanded.

Have we forgotten Obama barricaded the open-air World War II Memorial, threatening arrest of 90-year old veterans who went around the barricades erected honor of them and the hundreds of thousands of their brothers-in-arms whose blood was spilled on the battlefields of Europe and the Pacific islands as they fought to rid the world of bloodthirsty dictators seeking world domination?

Have we forgotten Obama and his thugs closed down the commissaries (grocery stores) on military bases during the shutdown, forcing underpaid soldiers’ wives to go off base to get more expensive groceries for their children? Or that he threatened to arrest priests who performed Mass on military installations, even when those priests were willing to do it for free? Or forgotten that Democrats shut down the Amber Alert website, which helps locate kidnapped children, or that they cut funding for the National Institutes for Health, which treats kids with cancer?

And where is liberal outrage at the revelation that high-ranking members of the Obama administration were aware of, and even encouraged, the use of the IRS as a bludgeon to threaten, harass, and intimidate anyone opposed to the Obama agenda? Where are the Democrats calling for the firing of Attorney General Eric Holder, who refused to enforce the conviction of members of the New Black Panthers, who dressed in paramilitary gear and carried billy clubs, threatening voters coming to the polls in Philadelphia? Where are the calls for the firing and/or prosecution of Holder for his role in the selling of assault weapons to Mexican drug cartels, which led directly to the deaths of American law enforcement agents Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata, not to mention the murders of hundreds of Mexican citizens?

Where are the calls for the firing of Kathleen Sebelius for her role in trying to extort “donations” from American corporations for the implementation of ObamaCare? Where is the fury at Obama’s no-bid contracts with Halliburton, which was prima facie evidence to liberals of massive corruption under the Bush administration? For that matter, where is the outrage from the left over the no-bid contract given to CGI Federal, to the tune of more than $600 MILLION, for the development of the crash-prone ObamaCare exchange website, which was built with virtually zero security…the vice president of which was an old college classmate of Michelle Obama? In fact, according to Judicial Watch, the Obama administration handed out more than $115 BILLION in no-bid contracts in FY2012 alone (any guesses as to how of these no-bid contracts went to companies run by big donors to Obama and the Democrats)?

Where are the calls for the firing of James Clapper, who blatantly lied to Congress about the extent to which the NSA was spying on all Americans? Or for the firing of administration officials who used fake email accounts to conduct government business for the express purpose of avoiding compliance with Freedom of Information Act requirements. High ranking members of the Obama administration also avoided revealing who they were meeting with by holding meetings at Starbucks coffee shops near the White House, so that no record of the meetings would be found on the White House visitor logs.

Liberal Democrats rail against the Citizens United ruling, which upheld the free expression rights of corporations, and they lament the Wall Street “fat cats” and the influence they wield with government, but seem completely unconcerned that upon taking office Obama almost immediately broke his promise to never hire lobbyists, hiring dozens of former Goldman Sachs execs now working for him (remember “Turbo Tax” Tim Geithner, the admitted tax cheat Obama appointed as Treasury Secretary)? And let’s not forget that Obama is the single largest recipient of Wall Street political donations in more than two decades…but hey, I am sure that doesn’t affect his policy decisions at all (he also gave millions of taxpayer dollars in bonuses to the execs of bailout cow AIG, even as he pretended to be furious about it).

Likewise, liberal Democrats seem perfectly content with Obama’s renewal of the PATRIOT Act, which under Bush portended black-clad, jack-booted thugs breaking down our doors and hauling dissidents to secret prisons, but which under Obama I suppose is just one great big institutional Teddy bear, and never abused. There is also little outrage from the left over NSA collection of all of our digital communications (phone calls, emails, text messages, web searches, etc.), or for the Obama administration’s spying on the press, warrantless wiretapping, violation of bankruptcy laws in paying off his union buddies, firing of an Inspector General for revealing that his (Obama’s) friend had been embezzling money, and lying about the cause of the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi.

This doesn’t even touch on the legal but highly questionable nominations and appointments to key positions of radicals and criminals, including “Green Energy” czar Van Jones (self-avowed communist who claims 9/11 was an inside job), Safe Schools czar Kevin Jennings (who bragged about encouraging a 15-year old boy to continue having sex with a older man he met in a bus station(), and a bevy of tax cheats, including former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle as Health and Human Services Secretary, current HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Chief Performance Officer Nancy Killefer, and Chief Trade Representative Ron Kirk…ALL verifiable tax cheats who were not only never prosecuted, but were given cushy, powerful jobs with the Obama administration. And just this week, Obama nominate Debo Adegbile, attorney for unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, to lead the Justice Department’s Civil Rights division. Oh yeah…he also lied when he said if you like your doctor, you could keep your doctor.

So was the bridge closing an abuse of power? Absolutely. Illegal? Very likely. Should everyone involved be fired or prosecuted? Without a doubt.

But forgive me if I can’t work myself up into a lather with outrage when the same people now bellowing their fury have been conspicuously silent over far worse abuses from their own camp.
